USA Deck Plate Mod Worth It???

hey yall
i have herd about the deckplate mod ( http://www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=85 )

it looks cool and possibly worth it. but these trucks all have computers, so how would the max oxygen sensor let that extra air into the engine? i mean we all know its good but i dont think the truck itself would allow it

what do you think???

btw i drive 97 2wd if that matters

Don't worry about the extra air it is not such a big deal when i had a tacoma i threw the air box away and i atached a K@N filter to the stock hose . and never had a problem.
The only change you will notice is the
ingine noise will get louder and the HP will greatly increase (in your head :-)
The only down side to haveing the filter open like that is if really rainy or muddy or washing car even.
so that deck mod is pretty much best of both worlds .you can close it and open it when ever you need to
i would go for it.

Take a shot at it and you'll be able to determine if it will be worth the effort or not. I'm running the stock box on my 3.0...

I did it on my truck and it did make the engine sound more throaty, not sure if it makes more power but sometimes (cold days) it feels like it does. You do have to remember to close the hatch when you go swamp running or do any water crossings. Rain doesnt seem to matter as its pretty hard for rain to get to that spot anyway.

When I find the parts i'll do the deck plate mod. I have an OBD II scanner with a dyno function - not as good as the real thing, but it seems to be fairly accurate. It should be pretty telling to do some head to head tests, since I can just close the deckplate and be back to stock... I'll post some hp/torque curves when I'm done.

Anyone have advice on where to get the parts online cheap?

thats the website for the deckplate. then for the sealer, use the blue tube rtv. itsd a sicilicone that wont piss off the sensors lol. u can get it at a hardware store. or if u have to go to home depot or lowes, dont bother asking for help cause they dont know what the hell it is, just look in the sealer section for somthing that says "sensor safe"

hope it works out and post them results soon! thanks!
