Rear Differential Breather Valve

Starting off a new thread based on Hartzog's thread....

I started leaking gear oil on the RD. I thought is was finally rusting through. Found Bam's comment on HZ's thread about the breather valve. Found the vavle, unbolted it with a 14mm and cleaned it out, found the hole, and pulled out the most trustworthy tool of all time, the paper clip!

Cleaned it out real good and ran the clip through the breather hole. Drove it around for a few, then parked it and only a couple of drips. I'm hoping that was leftover oil in the seal.

Bam said when that valve gets gunked up/clogged, pressure builds up in the housing and pushes oil through the seals. After a visual inspection, that appears to be what was happening. I'll follow-up in a few days and let everyone know if the link completely stops.

Thanks again and this goes to show this sight is a wealth of information!!

Now you just have to do the remote breather mod and you'll be all set...

Better check those rear brakes...you might have oil on them. Wouldn't want you to find out the hard way you can't stop...

Oil hit the shocks, but shy of the breaks, barely, but I caught it soon enough.

What's the "remote breather valve?" In school right now and not a lot of time for research

Later Bam, and as always THANKS

It would benefit you greatly if you had a machine shop check over that third member before you install it.
