USA Jumping starter solenoid?

Ive got a 96 4wd T100. The truck was running fine, I parked it and two hours later I was planning on going to the store but it wouldnt start. The engine doesnt turn over at all nor are there any clicks from the engine when I try to start in. The battery is new so that is not the problem. Im guessing there is probably something wrong with the starter or soleniod and Im wondering how I would try to jump start the starter soleniod to see if thats the problem.

I would still test the battery and then yer cables. You said there wasn't any clicks at all? I guess you could tap the starter with something...

Is this a manual or auto transmission? If this is an auto, did you make sureit was all the way in park? Have you tried it in neutral?

It's an automatic. I tried it in park and I tried it in neutral. The lights and everything will come on full force and will stay on if you try to start the engine but it just doesnt crank over at all and there is no clicking whatsoever. I was thinking it might be the solenoid and was going to try to jump it to test it out but looking at the starter/solenoid Im not sure what I would be jumping as it doesnt look like the old style Im used to.

Give the starter a good tap and see if it will start. If it works, then it's the contacts fer sure...

Well I gave it a few taps and that didnt do anything so I borrowed my neighbors multimeter just to see how many volts the starter was getting and its around 12.65 volts.

It could be yer neutral switch on the trans...looks like you need to check fer continuity on 5 and 6 when it's in park or neutral. It should have continuity when it's in those positions.

I'd still check yer wiring connections on the starter...especially the ground.

To check the solenoid/starter, turn the ign sw to the RUN position.
Connect a fairly heavy gauge wire (18 or heavier) to the battery + terminal
Then touch the other end to the solenoid terminal.
If all is OK the solenoid should click and the starter should turn.

I am going to play captain obvious and ask did you check for power on all the fuses? use a test light and verify power? also put the key in start and ratchet the gear selector from P to 1 and back see if it makes any attempt. Verify the starter trigger wire is in place? check the fusible link form the battery to the fuse box under the hood?
to jump start the solenoid a 12 guage or better wire from the 12 volt started power and over to the trigger very short run and the the starter should throw the gear and spin.
