RE: Handbrake

Hello,

I have a 97' T100 and I have been having problems with my handbrake not releasing. I currently cannot move the truck when I put it in gear. I release the handbrake but it still isn't realesing the rear brakes. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lou

Take a peek under yer truck and follow the linkage to the bell crank going into the drums. See if they are free moving. It could be a few things. I would pull the drums and inspect yer rear brakes carefully.

Usually the rear pivot point inside the rear drums is seized. If it is seized badly enough you will probably need to replace the pivot brackets, the pin and clip. Usually the arm itself is still fine.

May have a bit of trouble getting the drums off with the brake applied, but hopefully you can get it apart.
