6.5" front speakers anyone? How to?

Hey, I've never been a fan of 5.25" speakers. I know some on the forum have stated that they've managed to fit 6.5" slim speakers in their front doors but I haven't found any details on how to make it happen.

Anyone willing to share their experience?

Also, did any T-100s ever ship with component speakers that place the tweeters up high near the mirrors? To me this setup sounds the best but I also like a stealthy stock look to deter potential hooligans. Placing an aftermarket tweeter right next to the window screams, "steal me". If you have a t-100 with stock component tweeters please post a picture!

Thanks!

Yes...the SR5 package usually had the upgraded sound package which included the tweeters near the mirrors.

I did see someone looking to sell their adapters on Craigslist...but I can't seem to find their listing...

Cheapest price so far is $11.08 plus shipping...not sure if they come in a pair or not.

Not sure what size these are either. You'll have to contact the sellers and see if they have any more information about this speaker adapter.

Dont buy them. They dont work. They are the same size as the stock ones. A 6 1/2 does NOT even come close to fitting in them. Been there done that. Your better off making some custom ones yourself out of wood. And make sure you get shallow mount speakers. Normal ones will hit the window glass when you roll it all the way down.

What do you mean it comes with the door mount for the bigger speakers? Did you get 6.5" woofers in without having to fabricate anything?

Thanks everyone!

I think it is 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 deep that fits in the stock mount . I ditched the 6 1/2s and went with some 5 1/4 componets instead. But you can make a adapter to make the 6 1/2 fit out of some 1/4 plywood and 3/4 plywood and just copy the stock one. Pretty easy once you look at it and think about it for a min. Thats what I was going to do till I found the 5 1/4s from a friend for cheap.

Metra makes a kit for the T100 that replaces the factory mount for the door speakers with 6.5" the kit is less than $20.00 and it works really well! as for the back your going to have to get small boxes and an amp. I took out my factory amp under the radio and used the metra kit for that as well. only for power and antenna up down. I ran my own wires for everthing else

Good Luck

Thumbs up

It looks like the Metra kit and the Crutchfield adapter are the same unit- and I'm glad to hear it's working for some of you. I think I'll try the Crutchfield route as they have Infinitys on sale right now. Thanks to everyone for the input. I'll let you know how it works out!

just 1 more thing metra also makes spacer rings to give you more mounting depth 1/4 - 1" you may have to do a little minor shaving on the grill cover but it should be ok if its not too deep.

ls1 is right. with my crutchfield adapeter, the outer neoprene rubbed the grill. i just used a dremel and filed it off. MAKE SURE U DO THIS! it will rub/tear the speaker up if you dont

and thats the tweeter next to it

heres the whole thing. yeah i know it looks ghetto as hell but whatev. the blue thing @ the top of the speaker is the bass filter. i put that on since they are midrange speakers and bass is terrible. now i just turn the bass all the way up and let the 6x9's do the talking. i plan to move the crossover sometime. just gotta decied where
