New T- engine cleaning advice

Hello, I just got a T100 and I love it. The previous owner took good care of it and did routine matinance. It has a fresh oil change and new spark plugs. I just want to give the engine (240k) a good cleaning, I think it deserves it .

Anyway so on my agenda so far I have:
clean the throttle body
flush the radiator
install a new o2 sensor

I have limited mechanical experiance but I think I am clear on how to do the above items

I also saw a thread on here (I think it was here) for flushing the power steering. I would like to do thy too but was a little hazy on what exactly to do and on where all the parts are. But it seems like a good thing to do.

Also, fuel injector cleaner: just dump some in the gas tank? Or is there a better way to do it?

Is there anything else that I could clean up that would not be too difficult?

CWEbV

Any advice, links, and especially pictures would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!

do a search for seafoam on here there is a procedure I have not tried. I run 2 cans of seafoam every 3 months in the tank and it keeps mine purring. change the rear diff fluid and the trans fluid if its a manual or have the auto flushed if thats what it is. adjust the rear brakes get a grease gun and hit every zerk you can find.
and congratz on the new ride.

Seafoam into the brake booster. Try Redline SI-1 in the tank, chemically it is a much more effective injector cleaner.

After cleaningbthe throttle body, my truck seems to idle higher. I don't remeber the normal idle speed before I cleaned it, but it bow normally idles aroud 1000 rpm. What is the normal idle for after it has been running for a minute or so?

The FSM spec on 4runner w/ 5vz says that idle should be 700 +/- 50. Don't know of an online manual for a T100 so I can't check to be sure, but I would bet it's pretty much the same.

So if it's at 1000 with the motor fully warmed up that's about 250 too high. But off course it will idle higher before it gets hot.

Did you take the throttle body off to clean it? I'm gonna venture you got some crud loose and into the IAC (idle air control) valve...

Guess you'll have to clean that, too.

I guess I will add that to my cleaning list. Well, the cleaner the better. Excuse my ignorance on the matter, but the ICV is the thing behind the throttle body going into the engine (if that makes sense). I did a google search on it and that is what i have come up with.

Thanks for the advice I am learning a lot.

The IAC valve is attached to the bottom of the throttle body. Do a search on here and you should be able to see a piccie of what it looks like.

Well, i took the whole throttle body and idle air control valve off and cleaned it all off and it is idling slightly lower but still high Any more ideas?

Also, the small tube that attaches to my air intake hose (is that what its called?) seems really loose. Is it supposed to be like that or should i replace that? (Also, what is it called? Kinda hard to go to the parts store and ask for "a small tube thing" )

Piccies would help here...really.

You mean this hose?

On my 98 T-100...there's a plastic adapter...I just ziptied it around the entry point so it would be tighter...

Flushing the power steering is rather easy. You don't even have to start the engine up...

Yes, that hose! (i just uploaded a picture and everything... but you beat me to it ) So i should get a zip tie or something to secure it a little better then? Would that make the oil pressure go up? Mine seems a little low. On my 91 pickup it would sit between the first and second line when i was driving and below the first when idling. On my T100 it rarely gets above the first line even when driving.

Idle is still high It has come down a little just from driving it :S could i have knocked a sensor or something when i cleaned it?

Again, thanks for all the help I know i have a ton of questions

If it was a bit loose you could have possibly bumped the TPS. I don't know how much that would really affect idle speed though, and you'd have other driveability problems if it was significantly out of adjustment.

It does not seem to be having any issues other than the idle speed. Well other than my piece of crap right tail pipe falling off on the pot hole filled roads of Alaska.... Oh well, that was next on my list of things to spend some $$$ on anyway But i dont think that has anything to do with the throttle body. While the idle is now being weird, the accelerator is MUCH smoother now though.
