Black headlight Write up 2005's

Black headlight write up

Here is a quick write up.

It was really easy once you get the headlights apart.
Here is a quick write up
Take the headlights out. You will have remove the grill and that small piece below the lights wich is very easy.
There are 4 bolts for the headlights.
2 up top, 1 at the bottom inside corner bumper hides it a little but u can get it out and the 4th is you gotta go up under. As you see in the pic is where the 4th bolt is

Once the lights are out. Remove everything off of them. All the plastic pieces all the lights and rubber things and 3 hex screws. Make sure not to mess with the adjustment knobs.
I took off the top weather strip but others say you can leave it on.
Cooking the lights.
I found at 305 degrees for 9mins works well. Remember preheat the oven then once you put the light in there turn it off.
At this time and temp it should pry apart the first try. Just take your time and dont rush anything. This is not something that just peels apart super easy. I didnt use any tools. I just used my hands by starting in the one corner where its easy to grab both parts. I also had a buddy helping me pry it apart slowly.
Once apart. Remove the 2 hex screws in the plastic piece in the lens.
Pull it out. pop out the orange marker and the turn signal lens.
I used Krylon Fusion paint. No prep needed its also desinged to Bond to plastic and is pretty strong from what i read.
All I did was take a scotch brite pad and just scuffed it up a little bit just to take a little extra measure. I cleaned it off with glass cleaner. I wore goves so I would not get any oils back on the surface.
Paint away and take your time and dont put on thick coats. It took me 25mins per light to paint it using lighter coats so you dont get any runs or drips.
Let it dry for about 20mins and be careful I still didnt touch the painted surface I carry from behind and be VERY CAREFUL putting markers back in if you choose to do so. The paint is not fully chip resistant for 7days.
After that I put the 2 pieces back in the oven at 300 for 5mins just to get the caulk soft. I also used silicone Window/door to put in the seam of the housing. Then i pressed it back together tightlight. put the hex screws in and popped the tabs in place. After that I put another bead of silicone all the way around the seams again.
Thats it put it back in the truck. Also that 4th bolt that is under SCREW IT. I still havent put it back in and the light does not budge with 3 bolts.
Hope everyone that tries it has a good outcome. Just take your time it took me 4hrs
They will look like this

Yeah, we wouldn't want people to actually have to use the Search button.

hehe, well there are Customtaco's links in there too, and since 55reasons took the time of looking up those thread, it'd be a shame to delete them.

I did it for this other dude for $180 total. $150 labor and then $30 for supplies and return shipping.

Might sound a little steep, but time is money. Any less than that and I'll just go back to work and do some overtime for $35 an hour.

thats stupid...Save your money..Do it yourself it isnt hard at all. Just time consuming..If you had someone else do it would take 1000x as long.
Just do it. The hardest part is doing that first light in the oven to get it apart. After you get that first one apart. Its cake. Just follow my write up and do not forget to heat both peices back up at 300degrees for a few mins to get that glue soft again so u can press it together and seal it up

Yeah, really it would just be easier to do it yourself.

Just snug up your balls and go for it.

Take your time and let the paint dry good before re-assembly.
