USA Crunched My Rear Bumper

Crap. I got a new job and parked in the parking lot. Backed up to head out to lunch and CRUNCH...I backed right up into a fire hydrant that was a foot past the edge of the road, directly behind where I parked. (You can't see it when backing up.)

The worst part is it hit on the rear, right corner to also dented the back panel a little. I wasn't even going very fast...cheap bumper! (It has a big dent in it and my friend said they can't bang-out chrome at the body shop)

I'm searching for after-market bumpers....the off-road group has some nice ones. (The OEM one is RIDICULOUSLY expensive!)

My favorite is the Dual Tube Rear Bumper but I haven't, yet, found it for my 05 Taco, yet. (It's about $250)

Anybody else replace their bumper?

Boo

It could have been worse... You could have broken the hydrant off its mount and made a nice gyser. I've heard that they are supposed to shear off fairly easly. A buddy of mine did that and he said it wasn't pretty. He got his truck washed at least.

toyotapart.com sells it for about $310. you'll have to inquire as it is not on the online catalog. someone slid into my bumper while at an intersection. it happened during one snowy drive late nov. and I didn't even notice the bump inside the cab. realized it only a week after as I remember the crazy angle of the vehicle behind me that time.

How much time is involved to remove the rear bumper? Bolt locations, etc?

^ the downsides to the Allpro bumper are no step and the receiver hitch is not rated to tow, just a recovery point. They are tough, though.

You can also try Demello and CBI. CBI will make you a custom job to your specs.
