Stupid me, I ordered a basic DC 4x2 SB with tow package but without LSD, but now I'm regretting it. A lot of ppl have told me its good to have LSD with the tow package. Can I live without it? After all, im in So Cal..don't expect much bad weather/road conditions.
The one I ordered has SR5 package and Tow package = $22999 + tax/lic = 25071 from dealer.
So what do you guys think of having just the tow package. do you foresee a circumstance where im towing something heavy and LSD would be crucial? How does the price sound? Any input appreciated?
Or I could just decide on a basic vanilla SR5...its gonna be a work truck, no need for any fancy TRD. Best basic SR5 price I got was $24250 OTD.
It would probably be nice to have, but like you said, you probably wont need it. Unless you are putting a boat in the water and need the extra assistance getting back up the ramp you should be fine. I wish I would of waited and got the 4x4 but I don't have it so I just live with it.

My truck was $27k after tax, tags, and title. That's for 4x4, TRD off road package, tow package, convienence package, sport seats and a few other things. Seems like a lot more for only a $2k difference... I'd see about cutting your price or adding some stuff for that price.

Out of curiosity, could you actually install an aftermarket LSD assembly into a Taco that didn't come with one from the factory?
probably... Me, I'm not THAT mechanically inclined... lol So I figured it was cheaper and easier to just get a 4x4 with a locking rear diff and not mess with it later.
Edit:
OH! Just remembered a TV show called "Xtreme 4x4" (I think) that did a rock crawler on a budget... They used this racheting differential insert thing that locked the rear axle, but would kinda rachet to allow the wheels to turn a different speeds while turning. It made this clicking noise when you were turning if they were used on the front differential. The kit for their jeep for front and rear axles was around $200.

I don't know what the real advantage/disadvantage would be having he LSD for towing. I have the 4x4 with the locker and I tow a 5200# trailer. No problems backing or pulling it through gravel. Even then I would just hit 4H if I needed to. Someone also posted that it would be nice to have LSD if pulling a boat out of the water... yes true as long as both wheels weren't in the slippery water then LSD or no LSD you're gonna slip.
It is more than an assembly- its actually all the internals to the rear differential assembly. I have seen the overhaul procedure from the FSM and it looks very complicated in there!! Probably not something you can easily do unless you have a buddy who is a mechanic and has all the specialized tools.
