I just went for a test drive in an '06 DC Tacoma SR5 package. I really liked what I felt and heard, and I'm really excited about the idea of stepping up to a new truck. I have a few questions for you all...
1- What kind of MPG do you all see??
Kidding!
Seriously, I'm wondering what you all were able to work out with the dealer for pricing and added options. One thing that I'd like to get would be step-bars, but I'm wondering if things like that get thrown in as a deal-closer. As well, I'm sure that most people were able to talk the dealer down some on price, but just how far are they willing to go. I can't find a Canadian site that shows dealer invoice price, so if any Canucks are here and read this, can you let me know how much you were able to talk the dealer down. I just need a basic idea, I'll know the deal I want when I get it. I'll be looking at getting more serious into the #'s with the dealer tomorrow, as I had an appt. to get to, so I couldn't get much done today. Thanks in advance for all the responses.
I find that if you want the little extras you should find a truck on the lot that already has it and argue it from there.... in my exsperiance it is alot easyer to talk down the price of acceseries than to get them thrown in as a bonus (maybee I'm just no good at haggaling I don't know lol)
Settle on a price for the truck, and THEN haggle on accessories as a seperate entity. If you start combining the two, they're going to start gaining back any advantage you might have had on the vehicle price.
That way, too, if you can't come to an agreement on the cost of the extras, you've still got your vehicle price locked in.

My problem is, that in Dallas, I had to go to 3 different dealerships to even find one on the lot to drive. They each said that they were going to get one or two in the next couple weeks.
I wanted a 4cyl auto with extended cab with the sr5 package......none to be had in the 4 state area. So now I'm waiting for one coming on the boat.....3 weeks.
There much be a shortage on Tacoma's in this area or they are all lying to me. I really liked the Prerunner I drove, but it was too much money.
How are the Tacoma supplies in your neck of the woods?
I have been shopping heavy for two months in the sacto valley area before I recently bought a new 06 TRD offroad access v6 auto 4x4 tacoma in Roseville, I know where they are here, heh, big supply of 4x4 tacoma access V6 6spds in roseville right now. Hardly any TRD offroad pkg V6 auto access cabs, there are a few access 4x4 4 cyl 5spds, saw a couple in Elk Grove dealership recently. More sr5 access v6 4x4's and prerunners than anything else around here now. But they come and go fairly fast in these places on the weekends. I did see a couple of the rare LB double cabs on rosevilles back lot also recently.

Have you gone to Sport City Toyota off 635 and northwest highway? they have a lot of tacomas. I bought mine from there for $23,600

It's really going to vary from dealer to dealer (and probably even salesman to salesman). I dealt with the internet sales guy at one of the local dealers, and he was great to work with. He gave me a fair price over the phone (sticker was about 28,500 and I got it for 25,250). Like someone already said, get the price for the truck nailed down first, then talk accessories. I got my bed extender installed for $250 since I did it at the time of the sale. They've really been decent about price even after the fact, too. Got my tube steps for $344 last week.
1. Do not buy from Heninger Toyota in Calgary, Trust me......
2. On my 2006 TRD Sport DC LB 4x4 V6 the dealer markup is $2,900+
3. There are plenty of Tacoma's on the lots right now at all Alberta dealers, do let let them tell you it will be gone if you do not buy today (This was true up until about January though)
4. Get quotes from various dealers and then call Lethbridge Toyota-they will beat anyones price. I purchased mine over the phone in another Toyota dealer, while dealing with them.

Beauty! Thanks for all the responses guys! Yeah, I forgot the mantra here...
"if at first you don't suceed, search, search again."
Kidding. These are great suggestions. I'll definitely try to nail down a price before I start talking accessories. I'm 6'4" and my wife is 5'1" , so things like stepbars are a must. I'll have to see what I can do with that. kooltaco, yeah, I knew not to deal with Henninger. I'm actually talking to a guy I was refered to at Country Hills Toyota. I didn't know about Lethbridge Toyota though. That may be a way to go. I'll have to see what I can nail down for a price today, then, if I'm happy, stick with it, otherwise give Lethbridge a call. Thanks for that.
doctordun, as for selection here, the dealer I was at yesterday had about 12 on the lot yesterday. I saw 1 base model, but the rest were either DC's with the SR5 or the Off-road package. So I don't think finding one around here with the package and color I want is going to be difficult.
