Ready for my first oil change. I am a believer in synthetics, so I got Mobil 1 5-W30, but I am worried about my filter choice. I have a M1-102 and a Bosch 3330 in my possesion, but am a little concerned. I have the much-discussed "tick-exhaust leak" problem. I want to eliminate it. I've searched this group and the the Web for the best oil filter and, frankly,I don't know what to do. Mobil 1 lists other mfgrs for the oil filter to use with their oil. This group and others suggest the M1-102 filter -- why doesn't M1 list M1-102 as an option for my truck? My buddy, a lifetime Toyota man, suggested the Bosch. Right now, I am thinking of going to the stealership and getting the OEM filter to use with my syn oil. My question to the group is this: Should I use the filters I have, or go OEM? I searched and fretted over this, so it's not like I didn't do my research. Opinions please.
Thanks much,
Chris
BTW: I freakin love this truck, so I want to keep it happy! :>)
im at 2000 miles I just changed the oil today. I used the M1-102 and 5.5 quarts of 5w-30 mobile 1. I got a shami and some soap. 60$
since when does mobile1 cost 5.79 a quart? I got some at wallwart last year for 4.79 every day price.

Changing mine today(10,000 mi) and I use GTX and WIX. Personal Preference & what you're willing to pay for it. The main thing is to be consistant on oil changes and Tune ups.

Just use Supertech pr a purolator Premium plus. The Denso OEM is a very good filter as well. The only filter to avoid is the orange one. Full flow filters do very little other than prevent catastrophicaly large particles get pumped into the bearings.
Letting the stealership do it makes me stress. They always let the noob 18 year olds do the oil changes.
Who has time to drop it off or make a trip to the "local" dealer. I like to do it myself. It keeps me in touch with my Yoda

True. The dealership that I BOUGHT my truck from has a lot of kids working in the shop.
One of them even goes to my school for god's sake!
My LOCAL dealership seems to employ techs that are older than 25. It is a real small dealership. The service department is tiny. There are only 2 service advisors.
I keep my eye open for those things! I watch the truck get pulled into the shop and I watch it get pulled out.
I never have to wait more than 45 minutes for an oil change. I have all the time in the world, since I am a student doing absolutely nothing but chilling!
The stealership put 7 quarts of oil in musaftaco's 4.0 liter the last time he got it changed. When he took it back, they just guessed and drained some out of the pan, then said he was good to go now. Never apologized.
Now he brings his truck to the PB Full Service Garage. Members of the SW Ohio Modders Club gets a free oil change with each regularly priced Mod.
