AcessCab 4x4 with TRD Sport Package

Well, I tried to by a new Tacoma this morning. Aside from the pushy, lying salesmen and their managers, I was told that in Chicagoland I could not buy my preferred model:

............AcessCab, 4x2, Automatic, with the TRD Sport Package..........

I was told that I could get an AccessCab with a TRD Sport Package ONLY in a 4x4, and that I also had to get the Towing Package.

This is probably not really true, but I was wondering if anyone out there owns an

...........AcessCab, 4x4, Automatic with the TRD Sport Package..............

and are you happy with this combo.

I COULD get a 4x2 with the TRD Off Road Package, but I really want the 17" wheels.

Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks................Frank

According to Toyota's website, the lying salesmen and their managers were not lying. What made you think they were lying to you?

I have a 06 access cab 4x4 with the sport package, V-6, and auto. I love my truck. My only compaint is the softness of the paint. I bought the black sand pearl knowing it would be a pain to keep clean, but this scratches so easy. Anyway I would say go ahead and get the 4x4. I personally don't see the point in a prerunner....a 2wd that looks like a 4wd Just my .02 Hope you enjoy what ever truck you end up getting.

Splicer, apparently I haven't spoken clearly. I'm sorry. The salesmen were lying about what price they'd give me. They were doing the "good cop, bad cop" routine with me. And they were quoting me one absolute lowest price and then, after I threatened to leave, and they brought the manager in, gave me another. I don't enjoy negotiating price. I have a bottom line above which I won't go, and they have a bottom line below which they won't go. No games, please. I don't doubt that the factory builds the trucks a certain way for each part of the country. That is not what I was angry about. Well, I WAS upset that I couldn't get a 4x2 AccessCab with the TRD Sport, but that is secondary to my being yanked around by the sales guys. Would you be so kind as to tell me precisely where on Toyota's web site I can see what you've seen about regional availability?

06TRD Sport, I agree. It's just that I want the 4.0l six motor, and they won't put that in an AccessCab that is not a PreRunner.

I had no idea that Toyota was so picky about how they built their trucks. Their web site shows all these options and possible combinations, but you really can't get them. Even if I acquiesce to a 4x4 in order to get the Sport TRD package, I HAVE to get the Towing Package with it, and I really don't need or want that.

Sorry for the rant................Frank

Frank,

I purchased an Access Cab, 4X4, V6, Automatic, TRD Sport package. Love it. Yes, the hood scoop is fake, but it looks good. I like the sport package because the grille surround, bumpers, mirrors, etc, are color matched rather than chrome. The 17" inch wheels don't look too large, and don't add unnecessary bling.

I have had no paint issues, no rattles, no wind noise, no ticking. Everything works. The vehicle is excellent off road. Remember, it's a truck, so it will feel light in the rear end on snow.

You will notice some peculiarities: Cigar lighter and no ash tray. Seating for two (plus two mini-me's in the access part of the cab) and drink holders for 33 people. And I don't care for the bright silver boom box radio.

But overall, it is a very well thought out vehicle. It handles better than any other truck I've ever owned, better even than most SUV's out there.

Price: I bought mine at invoice. Some have spent less, some have spent more. But you should be able to get yours for pretty close to invoice. You may be better off just calling the fleet managers at different dealerships, tell them what you want, and tell them you are willing to pay invoice. (That's what I did.) Couldn't hurt to try.

Best of luck to you.

Thank-you very much for the input.

I really only need 4WD once or twice per year, and the rest of the time it cost gas milage, and accelerates a bit more slowly. However, it sounds like I'll be very happy with a truck like this.

Again, thanks...................Frank

So you want a 4x2 access cab with a TRD sport package without being a prerunner? Why don't you want the prerunner?

You can get the 4x2 ac trd sport prerunner with or without the tow package.

Ah, I misunderstood -- makes more sense now.

Toyota's web site I can see what you've seen about regional availability?

I simply went to Toyota.com and plugged in a Chicago zip code...

I just tried building a truck on the toyota website the way you want it and the sport package as not an option out here in California for a 4x2 acces cab but it is for a 4x4 access cab. why don't you get a DC. I have a white double cab 4x2 with sport package and just love the extra room. Just another option if you really want the 4x2 sport.

Thanks, but the double cab makes the truck too long to fit in my garage, a necessity for me here in IL.

I'm gonna go 4x4.
