DVD/Nav units have a lot of features and a lot of wiring. This can mean a lot of adapter harnesses that have to be sqeezed behind the radio. It makes it so much cleaner and easier when you can just plug everything right in. Plus the Eclipse HUs don't have an outboard "brain" that you have to mount under the seat. It's all built in to the main unit.

As I mentioned before, I really wanted the Eclipse unit but I didn't have the cash for it so I decided that I would just buy the kenwood dvd unit and wait to buy the navigation accessory. The Scosche wiring harness that Walmart sells is really not a big fuss IMO. Its color coded plug and play and very easy to work with. But yeah, the Eclipse unit enables steering wheel controls (doesn't matter for me) and puts everything in one unit. Extremely easy and straight forward. I still like the Eclipse unit better (and now its cheaper on ebay

) but the Kenwood combo does have some advantages. The navigation add-on does not rely on DVD navigation. It has a hard drive and uses an SD card slot for map updates so no more need to buy new nav DVDs. I'm not sure if the Eclipse unit tilts like the Kenwood does. This feature does come in handy when the sun is hitting the screen or you want to look at another angle or change the look of the unit in the dash. And the DVD output is great with its slightly larger screen.
The only issues that I have with the DVD unit is that the backgrounds suck and I am dying to find a way to customize them somehow. lol. Most of the time I just keep the background black. The user interface also takes a little time adjusting to with most of the functionality being touchscreen.
BTW guys, sorry for the long posts.
