Uhhhh ? How do I check the tranny fluid level?

I just bought a used 05 Tacoma 4 door prerunner and installed a tranny cooler on it since mine did't come with the tow package. I lost a bit of tranny fluid and wanted to check the level and was amazed that there was no tranny dipstick. So I checked the manual and nothing. Next I crawled under the truck and found what seems to be a fill plug on the right side tranny tail section. Do I just top it off there until it runs out, or am I just a complete idiot and am missing something obvious?

I'm afraid that I do not know how to top off the tranny, but I just want to say that you are not an idiot. The Tacoma has no dip stick, and the transmission is considered to be a sealed unit with the fluid changed very infrequently (I don't have my manual handy), if at all. I'm sure that someone else can chime in about refilling the unit.

Good luck.............Frank

From EXPERIENCE......There is none and you have to either bring it in to have it filled or get a pump and fill it in from the side of the transmission.

Goodluck!!!!

That would be great. Please send it to beefyfabrication@aol.com

I installed a 18,000 GVW cooler I got from Oregon Performance Transmission. Atleast I think that is their name. Try it on Google. It was only like $45 and is great quality and I mounted it off the same crossmember in the front that the tow package one mounts to. I was able to use pre-existing threaded holes also. Worked out great. Comes with everything you need to mount it too. I guess I probably lost 100 cc of fluid. I was just curious what the level was anyway since I bought it used. Thanks

I'd check and plan on adding. In addition to the 100cc you estimate you've lost, you've got to make up the fluid that fills the lines and the cooler. Not sure if you'll find it anywhere very easily other than a dealer as of yet.
Happy trails

you would assume so, but it is not the case with this tranny. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid, and don't jack with your tranny untill the dealer says so.
