Well, its Love Bug month.. I know they come around twice a year. I wanna say May and Auguest. How do you guys handle getting them off your truck? I know its a pain in the a$$ gettting them off. They also eat away your paint. I do my regular double coat of wax. But after they come and go, you still can see the little specks that ate the clear coat away.
Thats the only thing that sucks about Florida. You can 2 months of Love Bugs that damage your paint. Well, beside the lovely Hurricanes.
Over here in Louisiana, the Love Bug season is May and September. So far they haven't been bad. The only thing I've found that cleans them off is a damp fabric softener sheet. Rub gently and avoid the painted surfaces, though, as the sheets can leave scratches. I hope that one of the detailing pros here will have a better answer for us both, since I know taking the chance of scratching the paint isn't a great alternative to having the bugs eat through the paint.
I would put a couple good coats of an acrylic wax, like Klasse, on your truck. Then wash the bugs off with a pressure washer every few days if you have to. Keep a cheap bottle of quick detail spray and a towel in your truck for emergency bug removal. Bugs seem to come off easier if you spray them and let it soak for a couple minutes before hosing or wiping them off. Use lots of Quick detail spray or lots of car washing soap when wiping the bugs off. You want plenty of lubrication so they don't mar the paint when you wipe or wash them off.
Then after the end of Love Bug season, clay and polish your truck real good!
What the heck is a love bug ? Thought it was a Volkswagen beetle
They're unreal, man. They're like flys, little black bugs with red or white spots on them. They land on you and just kinda hang out. They get so thick, they really look like smoke clouds. I saw a moving truck at a rest stop in Atlanta one year that had so many love bugs on it, the grill area and the vertical, flat area of the box above the cab was solid black. Gotta love the south.
Man I hate love bug season. I put a few extra coats of wax on and keep these bug and tar moist towellets in the car. Every time I get home if I gently wipe off each bug with the cloth when the guts are still juicy, I get them off and barely put a dent in the wax. If you wait until they dry, then it's a problem.
That is actually a perfect description. They are also fornicating like mad so you usually see two of them hooked together at the ass, flying in slow motion...kind of like a "Push Me Pull Me" from Dr. Doolittle.
Bizarre little creatures, they don't seem to harm anything, its just that they are everywhere in the air...
I hate them, nothing eats them so they just keep multiplying. On my old truck I use to put vaseline on the front and just pressure wash it off but that was a 1991 pickup with not so good paint. Not sure how it will affect the new truck but never harmed the old one. I am not going to try it on my Taco.

I call them FUCK bugs, as they are always in that position. Our season here in Victoria, Texas is alway May and September, and they are swarmers. The only thing you can do, is wash your shit when it's dirty. Personally, I swerve like a drunken mad man.....

How far north and west do these bugs migrate to? Thats right, May and September. I also own a 03 Vivid Blue Civic Si. I swear I did a great job cleaning the love bugs off. But after the love bug season went by, I noticed splatter specks where the bugs got my bumper. Man was I pissed.. There is no way getting around it. I even had a bra on it.. But that was a pain taking it on and off. So I left it off.
I heard of ppl putting lube on the fronts or Saran wrap.. But I just can't imagine myself lubing or wraping my taco up.
Also, what is the best way to get tar off? I noticed I had black specs on my paint. I had a can of Tar and bug remover, but it does jack crap. Maybe it might be because its just old. I tried clay baring it, but no use. Any suggestions?
