I have been dealing with a few internet departments at the local dealerships here. I requested a price quote on a 2006 Tacoma Access-Cab V6 Auto TRD Off-Road, Towing Package, floormats/sills protectors.
He replied back to me with a dealer invoice(showing the exact specs and serial number for the vehicle) on saturday. He quoted me a price of $24,954 (below dealer invoice). I started to jump on this offer and arranged a meeting with him tomorrow(thursday) to sign the papers. I called back to today to review my financing and to double check on the options on the tacoma. At that time he realized that he made a mistake in the price quote. He quoted me the price for a PreRunner and not a TRD Off-Road. He apologized for his mistake and told me that he couldn't do any better than $26,476. I asked to speak with the GSM and he then offered it to me for $26,000(including dealer fees) and I'll only have to pay sales tax (7.65%)
The GSM faxed me the dealer invoice and I can see the price breakdown and the price is still a very good deal according to my research, but it was their mistake and it will cost me an extra $800
I verified the price/options with the Interet Sales Manager several times over email and phone over the past couple days and it took until today for them to realize it.
Should I press the issue and get the original quoted price or just buckle because it is still a good offer? I could ask for compensation with lower interest rates or other accessories.
OUT THE DOOR PRICES(These don't include any trade-in vehicles or discounts)
New Total Price: $27,989
Price with Dealer Mistake: $27,165.98
I'd push for as much as you can and I'd also be a little annoyed, but since it's not a signed agreement or anything, there's not a lot else you can do. People make mistakes unfortunately.
I got the truck in my sig for $24,500 plus tax, tag transfer and title. Not sure exactly how that compares but maybe it'll help some. Oops, roof racks, side steps and door sill protectors were NOT included in that price.

If you have that quote in an e-mail vs a verbal quote then I would push it. Almost would borderline "bait and switch" tactics. Granted though he did correct the error in quote before you went into the dealship.
Take it to another dealer and say "this is what so-n-so quoted me... what can you do for me?" Take it in!
Good luck... also, you can get a doublecab for around the same OTD price... aleast I did.

That sucks, nothing much you can do there. If you already sign the papers, its their mistake.
When i bought my tacoma, i sign papers for a wrong truck that i wanted. Idiot! I was pissed, so he grab the right papers, didn't discuss the price, review it and i sign it. Done. Spent like 4hrs in their.
Next day "Oh we didn't add the Leather Interior and Side Steps to your total price, sorry for the incoveniece"
I said, "Oh wait, heres my mom, talk to her"
You dont wanna know the rest, haha, their mistake!

Well, the offer is already well below dealer invoice, they are gonna have to take a negative hit to give it to me at that price. I don't think another dealer will do anything, because who would take a negative profit just for the sale(unless they were gonna miss quotas), especially when the other dealer is the one that f*ed up.

Keep pressing hard, try complaining about the bait-switch tactic, etc ... btw, this works better if you are in the dealership while customers are around ... be firm but don't show your ass right off the bat (save that for later if they try to stiff arm you). Also, as you stated before try to get them to throw in extras that you will probably already buy ... steps, bugshield, tonneau, whatever. They still will not be losing money as the invoice price is not the true bottom line ... dealer holdback, sales volume incentives, etc all affect the dealer's true bottom line.
Man, I'm still shocked at the sales tax you have to pay ... I had to pay 3.250% and thats because I bought it in Montgomery instead of going to a smaller dealer 40 miles away (closer dealer won w/better out the door price). And I only had to pay on the difference between trade-in and new truck.

What is the difference between PreRunner Off-Road and just Off-Road? Is the PreRunner 4x2 and doesn't have the switch by the radio?
