New TSB on Clutch Pedal Squeek '05+ Tacomas

Got a squeeky clutch pedal?

Toyota has revised the clutch slave cylinder clevis assembly to eliminate the squeeky pedal.

The TSB number is TC004-06

The production change effective VIN number starts at 6Z177337( last 8) If you have a vin number ending in a lower number than that VIN mumber than you can have your truck fixed under warranty.

The new part numbers are

31404-0401 Clevis Sub-Assembly, Cylinder push rod. (new part)

31311-04011, Pedal Sub Sub Aseembly, Clutch(old part number is 31311-04010)

They'll also need two new bushings, these are the same part numbers as the old one's - 90386-14015)

Goo!

I'm going to have this TSB done when I get back from my whitewater rafting/camping trip this weekend.

I can't wait. No more clutch pedal maintenance every month or so.

What to do with all of that leftover white lithium grease???

Thanks for the link. We have limited amounts of time on the interent so I cant spend it just on the forum when I have to write family and what not. The joys of being in the military I guess. Thanks again.

mjonags32, had mine since Dec 04. It started squeaking when dry and warm out after about a year. The source of the squeak (for me) has been the cap which is attached to the end of the piston rod. The cap is what the clutch pedal hits when you push down.

To put a little grease on it, get a 2.5ft stick and wedge against seat bracket to push the clutch to the floor. Get a light (headlamps are great). Pop out the plastic stopper high on the left side of the pedal. (mine was green). Let clutch out. Now you have a little more play between the pedal and cap. Use a qtip with grease or move the grease around that already in there. With cap good and greased, make sure the piston rod has a little too for good measure. Use the stick wedge to put clutch to the floor again. Replace the plastic stopper high on the left side of the pedal. Thats worked for me.

Otherwise, you can have the TSB done at dealer. I don't plan on going.

Note, many of us have shorten the clutch pedal travel by replacing the little green plastic stopper with a larger spacer. Kills 3/4" of dead space. See the Short clutch pedal throw post if interested.

So I searched other threads relating to this topic but couldn't find anyone that fixed the problem themselves using the parts that Toyota released. Seems everyone went straight to the dealer or devised their own methods ranging from having custom bushings made to gluing pennies together. I'm currently 4k miles out of warranty and the local dealership charges $80/hr in labor. I'm more than willing to save myself the money and do the work on my own but I can't seem to find a website that recognizes the part numbers Cam2Xrunner listed.

Quote:
31404-0401 Clevis Sub-Assembly, Cylinder push rod. (new part)

31311-04011, Pedal Sub Sub Aseembly, Clutch(old part number is 31311-04010)

They'll also need two new bushings, these are the same part numbers as the old one's - 90386-14015)
Anyone know where I could buy the parts online or would I have to get the dealer to order them?

Thanks.

trdparts4u.com then go to "Replacement Parts" on the left hand column
