Outside edge of headlight rubbing on front fender

This weekend I was doing the black headlight mod. When I removed the headlights I noticed that the outside edge of the headlight was rubbing the front edge of each fender and had rubbed the paint off down to the metal. The right side was rubbing in two places while the left only in the area where the fender crease meets the front edge.

Here's a picture of the right...

and the left.

What I did to correct it was to bend in the egde where it was rubbing with a pair of pliers and coated it with some touch-up paint. That took care of the bare metal and should keep it from rusting later. It will also prevent the headlight from rubbing again.

The headlight mod went well thanks to all of you who added your comments in previous posts. Here's a shot of my mod. I did not have any problems with the paint rubbing off the reflector when reassembling the housing.

When I took out my lights I didn't notice any rubbing on the fender.

To keep it from rubbing again, try loosening the headlight bolts and pulling the headlight out a little bit. Or you can loosen a couple of the 10mm bolts that hold the fender to the truck. They are easy to get to. They are right on top of the fender when you pop the hood, in the jamb. Just loosen them up and then push in on the fender a little, then tighten the bolts back down. The mounting holes in the fender are oblong, for making adjustments like this.
