Question Need help/advice ordering truck over net

Hello all, I am fairly new here. Just been lurking in the shadows for a while now. Well I am in Iraq currently and I will be home at the end of next month. I have been contacting a dealership in nashville where I will live to order my truck so it is waiting on me when I get back.

I specified that I want a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 double cab long bed sport in speedway blue.
I know the msrp is right over 30 for this so I told myself that I would like to pay around 28 for it if possible. He gave me an initial offer for the truck without me telling him what I wanted to pay.

"MSRP of this configuration is $30,603 and we can offer the vehicle thsough our internet department for $28,086 plus applicable taxes, tags, $299.50 processing fee."

What do you guys think? Since he pretty much already met my price without knowing it should I go lower on him? Well the thing is is that I want the trd exhaust and I want the toyota/DeeZee tube steps. Think I should say to round it out to an even 28 and throw in one or both of those?

I am open to all opinions. I would like to call him back today. Thanks guys.
Tony.

I'd use edmunds.com to get a price. They will give you the
MSRP, What people in your area are paying and the Dealer
Invoice. If the price they offer is at or below the Dealer Invoice,
you've got a good deal.... if it's higher, then they can go down.

I'm not sure if the TRD stuff is listed on the edmunds.com
pricing stuff or not.

My truck MSRP'ed for over 32, and I paid less than what your dealer is offering you. I think you can do much better.

Edmunds and KBB both offer invoice pricing quotes, so definitely check them out. If I was to guess, your invoice is probably 3,000 - 3500 under MSRP, so see if you can get down in the 27's.

And also get quotes from multiple dealers - maybe even Atlanta just to get more leverage.

I bought my truck through fleet/internet sales at my dealership. I did the entire transaction and special order via e-mail and only talked to the fleet rep a couple times on the phone. Don't even discuss price until you're in the dealership. It won't be legally binding unless you get a hand signed letter from the dealership. They will tell you anything they want over the net to get you to walk in. I used the prices from www.costcoauto.com as they use the CHROME data. CHROME is the industry standard for pricing and such. I came in with the price I wanted to pay and walked out a happy customer.

That's pretty good, but I suspect you can do better. I bought the same truck with the JBL stereo ($600) in it, and was quoted only slightly more than you. We routinely get hosed on everything here in the Bay Area, so you should be able to go lower.

Edmunds has a "what other people near me payed" feature, and I was well below that, so I was happy.

Also, Toyota lets you pick dealers off their "build a truck" website. Definitely shop around, use the Edmunds comparision. Maybe Nashville is a higher cost market than I expected.

Edit: You can do better. I had the tow package on mine, which I don't see on yours either.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The tow package does come with the sport package to my knowledge.

Well I talked to the dealer again and he said that they can only transfer with toyota stealerships in TN, OH, MI, and KY. He said there arent any of what I want in those states. He told me that it would have to be built and that it could take longer.

I REALLY want to lock down a truck NOW while I am in Iraq so that I can pick it up right away when I get back (after a year deployment) late next month. I dont care if I would have to go to chicago or atlanta or anything. What the heck should I do??

On edmunds it says people in my area are paying 28,280. So the offer is pretty good but he doesnt seem like he is utilizing all of his resources to get me the truck I want. I dont have any other vehicle and I will have to have one right away when I get back.
