Well, I just finished bringing home my first large payload of materials. I'm putting up a sound-wall, between me and the other side of the duplex where my in-laws are (long story, don't wanna go there ) Anyways, the load was about 500 lbs, and the truck handled it like a champ. Now I know that 500 doesn't seem like alot, but it's alot for me, and I was really impressed. I didn't crash on the bumpstops once on the way home, and it was a smooth and steady ride. I'm very pleased.
I had 800lbs (American) as my first load. I measured before and after and the back lowered about 1.5". Other than that, there seemed to be no noticable change in the truck. The power and handling were the same as usual!!! I love this truck!
I hauled about a yard of dirt/rock mixture. I'm not sure how much that weighs, but it pretty much filled the entire bed. There was plenty of power, but it felt very bouncy driving it around.

I know the excitement. When I had my GMC 2500 I put 115 bricks in it along with 13 or so bags of sand/cement, that filled most of the bed. Its good fun!
Diesel on the gmc? or gas? What kinda motor. My dad has 2 gmc' sierra both 2500 HD those suckers have balls. One has the 6.6L Duramax Diesel, and the other has the 8.1L Vortec. Both with the allison transmisson. The diesel pulls a John Deere Skip Loader and the gas pulls a mini excavator. Feels like your not pulling anything at all.

I had the LB7 Duramax, that thing was QUICK! Yeah I hear that they tow like nothing. What I love about the diesels is that a chip will give you an easy 100 hp and lots of torque also. But unless you upgrade the tranny the measly 60 hp setting on the chip is the safest for long term use. We definatly enjoyed the experience of a diesel.
Just watch it when you approach the truck's max load. With 500 lbs she rides nice, but when I get a good 1000 lbs in there, I really gotta watch it on bad roads/construction areas. She's bottomed a couple times with a loud thunk.
This weekend I'll be moving with it all while towing a 2800 lb trailer when empty, over 4000lbs when loaded. I'll let you all know how she does.

I make runs up to Denver (60 Miles) and pick up 10 cans of Lot Marking paint each week ( 700 Lbs) I lose some throttle response but the thing actually handles and drives smoother with the 10 big paint cans in the bed....Over that 60 mile trek I lose 5 MPG with the load. 18 MPG empty 13 MPG loaded.
Other than that I'm pleasantly suprised with the "Mid-Sized" trucks ability to carry a load.
I'm still not real "Sold" on its towing ability as my previous tow vehicle was a Powerstroke diesel which like you Duromax guys I could not even tell it was pulling.
Not a good comparision to a Tacoma but the constant shifting of the auto tranny and the horrid fuel consumption...11 MPG pulling a 1500# cargo trailer...Love the truck but cannot say the same for its towing ability, and that 6500# Trailer towing limit is insane....I pity the Foo' who trys pulling 6500#'s with his Tacoma further than a 25 Mile trip to the lake or Campground. thats just too much wieght for a tacoma. Way too much!
