Hmmm, I dunno, seemed like a fair report written by people who -- face it -- do not happen to be Tacoma enthusiasts. Some of their complaints are the same as we hear from our own board members!
I got a chuckle from the doofus who scraped the side because he wasn't used to driving such a big truck! Geez, it's only a mid-size...
I thought it was a fair report. Basically the report looks similar to every other Toyota truck report I've read in the past. Good quality, nothing overly exciting about the truck but it's a truck you will be able to like and use for a long time.
"...In a comparison test that pitted the Tacoma against the Nissan Frontier, the Tacoma was a champ in the sand dunes, but .... the Frontier ......was a little easier to live with every day...."
Lol read the part where he pulled out of a parking structure and clipped the right rear quarter? lol he complained of the turning radius. God people these days can't appreciate a truck. So tedious and shit. Those frontiers to them may be better but they are ugly and slow as . At least we know our truck can kick the nissan's ass(excuse my spanish).
Who would want a truck with the most plain door panels on earth...
The Nissan does offer Leather. Truck sales says it all.
Its ok rember the Honda Ridgeline was the Truck of The Year! Ground clearence is not an issue for pick-ups anymore I guess.
It looks like it is stuck in the sand! http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...k_of_the_year/
At least Nissan went bigger too. Their back seats still suck though. Toyota got it right in that department (Room and Comfort).

I am Ghey for my Taco... I forgot to put that in my post.
I think the market has created a following... it used to be Ford vs Chevy...
Now after the recent decline in sales... the battle hass shifted to
Toyota vs Nissan.
The real question is to those who 4 wheel or go off road...
"What truck gives you absolute confidence to get in and out of the woods"?

Actually what hit me, other than the nonsense gripe of the long bed Dcab being too big and hard to manuver (why didn't they test a smaller model then!), was the talk that the auto tranny not being able to make use of the engine's power.
I've read about of other problems w/ the auto tranny, but never that it couldn't make the most of the power. Then again if you look at Edmunds.com test 0-60 times (over 8 sec) compared to Car & driver & Motortrend (low 7's), these guys dont strike me as driving experts.

Those Magazine Folk seem to get "Lobbied" by the various manafucturers, with Toyota essentially taking over the automotive universe with good strong product that actually makes it to market in a timely fashion how much do they really need to "Lobby" the Media. Nissan on the other hand is in a position where they really need to get out there and hustle against the Toyota monster. Nissans answer to a Camry the best selling car in America is an Altima? And to combat the Corolla a Sentra? when was the last time anybody even saw a Sentra with a temp tag...Shit I thought those turds were disontinued. Maxima's are cool but they are competing against the lower priced Lexus models and BMW's 3 series...Good luck there Nismoe. The pathfinder sells O.K., Although you sure did see more of them during the previous body style versus this newer "Frontierish" "Titanesque" model.
The Titan's and Frontiers are battling Tacoma's, Rams and F-150's Yikes! Poor almost bankrupt Chevy barely even fiqures in the equation and there was once a time when Chevy trucks almost took over the world? ( They do have a new truck coming out at the end of the year that look alot better than the current crop)
it a tough market, and it makes you wonder when the creepy stuff like Ridgelines and Frontiers are getting all this Automotive Journalist praise and still sitting on the lots, unsold and homeless with huge rebates or 2% financing to help get em' gone. There aint no rebates on Tacomas and they are still building 06's in August??. Maybe all those "Lobbied" sent to Vegas with some Hookers for the weekend journalist's can go buy all those turds as them seem to hold them in such high regard....Those Yahoos dont have to pay for cars...There is always some manufacturer giving them free shit to help em' out with a good story on those shitboxes that your local dealer cant give away.
i like that they purchased the longest tacoma available and complained - too long: "The Tacoma's size was also an issue — most drivers found the Tacoma Double Cab to be too long."
and the stiffest suspension available (i think sport is stiffer than off road) and complained - too stiff: "TRD suspension can be rough"
but my favorite line was this: "Still other editors felt the Tacoma needed a manual transmission to make the most of the V6" - not like we can put a lot of stock in anything they say after the previous comments, but still.... score one for the manual trannys out there
I love how the mags (esp Consumer Reprts) always praise certain cars (Audi's for example) as great cars, but 4 years later, those same vehicles are on their unreliable used cars list, with huge mechanical problems. Nissan is usually in that category, but not to the extreme that Audi is. Looks good to them new, but not so shiny in 4 years. You never see Toyota in the unreliable list, even their low end stuff doesn't go there.
