Anybody use PIAA silicone wipers? They come with a "silicone windshield preparation cleaner" Just wondering if using Rain-X with these wipers is possible. Thanks.
Bill, you will not have any issues with using rain-X and the silicone blades. I have had Piaa silcone blades on my last couple vehicles and frequently rain-x'ed the windshield every other car wash... they hold up well but have a tendency as any other blade to rip at the ends if you accidently turn the wiper blades on with a dry windshield... The rain-x will help prevent the damage and you will find yourself using alot less action of the wipers in mild-moderate weather..
The silcone blades are nice because they do not dry out like standard wipers in severe heat conditions.
NO. NO. NO on using Rain-X with these wiper blades.
I tried that Rain-X windshield wash too and it goobered them all up. Plain ol' blue stuff from now on.
Those silicone packs are mostly alcohol to give you a clean surface. You'll see that the directions tell you to run the wipers for 5 minutes, dry, in order to coat the windshield with silicone from the blades themselves. It sounds like snake oil but it actually works very, very well. It's like Rain-X but it hasn't worn off in a year (for me). Not one single squeak either, running them wet or dry.
These wiper blades are amazing (yes, I used the word "amazing" to describe wiper blades). I am coming up on one full year using the same blades and they still work almost as good as brand new (which is still better than any other new blade I've ever used). These are well worth the money. The refills are half the price.
I keep meaning to order new refills but I honestly don't need them yet. Bought them for my fiance's POS as well. Highly recommended.

I never used the windshield wash in my res. tank... So I can not comment on that.. but I never had any streaking or any issues with using these baldes and rain-x'ing my windshield every other car wash..

Perhaps that's why you are getting that wear and tear on your blades. You said not to run them dry. I can run mine dry all the time. They still look like new.
All you need to do is keep the windshield clean. Rain-X is a waste of time and money. I bet it actually inhibits the wiper's performance as it begins to wear off and leave dry patches on your windshield.
I'm not going to get into a pissing match over this. The PIAA Silicone blades will work better without Rain-X.
Bill, It's worth a shot right? If you're not happy with them after the first few weeks, Rain-X your heart out.

Yeah, I don't use the Rain-X wwf. But, I do use Rain-X window treatment and am currently using Rain-X wipers. It works pretty good if you re-apply it about every third or fourth wash and the wipers are better than stock, but starting to squeak. I'm just gonna clean the winshield really good with some Barkeeps Friend and amonia and give the silicone a shot.
I would just wash the truck normally. Clean the windshield with some Invisible Glass or Windex. Change out the wiper blades. Follow the instructions on the PIAA package. The alcohol in those packets will remove any dirt, grime and leftover Rain-X.

I have "Silblade" silicone wipers I got out of the JC Whitney catalog, put them on Nov `04 and they`re still going strong
I use rain-x ocassionally in the winter and run them across the windshield dry to get the dust off when wheeling constantly, no streaks or noise and I still can`t get over not having to buy a new set of wipers every year I just laugh first good rain when it seems like everybody is scrambling to get new blades on
I`d definately recommend silicone blades
