Finished with the electric fan modification today, but now my "check engine light" is on. Is there any way to turn it off without taking to the dealer. I don't care to have to take my truck to someone where they will hook it up to a computer, then charge an arm and a leg to turn it off. Would there be a problem with leaving it on until my next scheduled visit.(oil change)

Pulling the battery cable for a few min will reset it.
Well I tried that last night, and the CEL remained on. This morning I was going to try your suggestion again, and as I started up the truck, the CEL was no longer on. Boy was I suprised! As my dad use to tell me "You were not holding your mouth right". Maybe this was the case this time. Thanks to all for their thoughts, and suggestions.

turn the key to the off position...
hold in the button you use to scroll through your miles on the speedo dash...
while holding in the button turn the key to the on position...
the number on the odometer will turn to all zeros and do a little flashing deal, really you just keep holding it in untill the odometer does a cycle of things and then it will go back to its regular display and it will reset your engine lights. I am not sure if this resets your entire computer or not but i do know it gets rid of the check light.

hope that helps
.... you got to be kidding me...
FBJXR...That procedure resets the Service Reminder light...It has NOTHING to do with the Check Engine warning light.
rooster56...if your Check Engine light was on (and not the service light), then there is a reason (not related to how you were holding your mouth). Check all electric connections around where you were working. Make sure you plugged up everything you unplugged; check the ones you did not unplug but may have moved or streched out of your way... etc...

wjdunn3 it is nice to see you are another one of those people on here that never make a mistake in thier entire life. nice to meet you...
Sorry for pointing out your mistake, but if I had not, someone else would have... geesh, am I suppose to just let that kind of mis-information stand so that some other dolt comes along and believes it and starts spreading some more !?! .... We have enough of that already around here.
I don't recall saying that I never make mistakes. I do...quite often as my wife points out. Maybe I should have approached it differently. Maybe you shouldn't be such a girl about it and have a little thicker skin.
Boone is right...a lot of threads around here are turning into pissing contest or squabbles. I'm done with it.

If he didn't post that, I would have since I was saying it out loud to myself right after I read it... then I saw his post and knew everything was going to be alright now.

After I thought about it, I had to remove the fuse that controls the computer, to hook up the main relay. Maybe that is what caused the CEL to come on. That is my guess. Didn't get to take any pictures, wife had the camera with her at a twins festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, Sorry! Yesterday I had to drive to Atlanta to pick up my wife and her twin sister at the airport, and noticed an increase of 3 mpg after the change. I agree, it is a great mod. So far the only problem I have had is the by-pass switch. I hooked it up the way I thought it would work, but it does not. Don't know. Thanks!
