Thought people might be interested in this article about all the recalls Toyota has had lately. I'm not sure, but I think you need to be logged into the NYTimes site to read it. The upshot of it is that Toyota is really worried about the impact these recalls are having on its reputation for reliability. It turns out Toyota has cut corners since the 1990's and hired a lot fewer engineers, and now the consequences are starting to show because most of the recalls are for design flaws. What's worse is the current recalls are affecting mostly 1990's vehicles, and given Toyota's vast expansion lately, quality has probably gone down alot since then so Toyota is concerned about design flaw problems that haven't even surfaced yet.
One of the worst I've seen is the exhaust cross pipe on these new Tacomas. Several folks had to be smoking crack to get that passed all the way thru to manufacture.
It's starting to get obvious that quality is starting to slip with a lot of complaints on TN forum. In my opinion the first mistake Toyota did was to go with Delphi products. I guess what the overall article is saying is that Toyota is getting to americanized. Hopefully Toyota doesn't follow the same foot steps as GM ended up doing. It's going to be interesting how Toyota is going to handle the recall situation.
If toyota does not start making cars like they use to this will be my last. Im not super happy with this truck. Quality is no the same as my 1995 pre tacoma 4x4 was. I just hate all the plastic. The motor is strong but it sounds like an old printing press.

I suppose that the whiners on this board, myself included (occasionally), are not such twats afterall.
I wouldnt go that far ...
This is the NY Times reporting this afterall. I wonder if GM or Ford "donated" some funds to this report to redirect the buyers attention back to their stuggling lots. Every manuf has recalls, engineers are not perfect. Everything has flaws (including our trucks) and I dunno if anyone has seen the reports, but Ford has had tons of recalls recently and their sales of F150s are falling hard.
This is an interesting bio on the NY Times... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Yor...ations_of_bias
Everyone has their price. And we have to remeber that the Media does too.
Take it for what it is worth.
