has anyone noticed that the fender flares that are painted to match the truck are not a perfect match. i just thought it was kinda wierd. i have a white dc.
Mine seem to match but I have radiant red. They may look different to you since they are more of a matte finish, not the gloss of the sides of the truck.

Every fender finish I have seen is slightly different from the rest of the truck.
It's more of a "dull" finish.
Mine is like that, my cousins and other trucks I have seen.
Concur! I attributed it to the fact that the flares are plastic and the truck is metal. Paint on plastic looks different. I suppose if Toyota really cared, they'd make sure it matches.
Ah well...

Aside from the material differences (plastic vs. metal), these parts are painted in three different places which also may contribute to the subtle color differences. The truck bodies are painted at NUMMI, the beds are painted in Baja California, and the fender flares painted at the supplier. Three pieces painted in three different paint environments = subtle differences.

I, too, have noticed that they're different and it's always irritated me a little. Not a huge deal by any means, but it's noticeable.
To say that the paint can't look the same on plastic as it does on metal doesn't seem right to me though. Pretty much every vehicle has a plastic bumper and they typically look the same as the sheet metal body panels.
The three different paint locations could play a role though...
The paint color is the same, but I think the paint has an additive that makes it more flexible than the paint that's on the sheet metal. Mine doesn't look that bad. The match is pretty close. It helps a lot if you polish the fenders. It adds some gloss.
BTW, I just got a new type of polish, and it's getting rave reviews. Sonus Swirlbuster Polish and Pad. http://www.bettercarcare.com/son-450.html I'll post some info once I give it a try.

All plastic body panels, fender flares, bumpers, ect. have a flex agent in them for the flex. My color is so close you can barely see any difference in the color. The flares and the front bumper does have some slight texture to them because of being plastice. Not as smooth as the regular body panels. You can see how close the color is and even the slight texture of the flares.
