Costco Tire Sale

Current sale on BFG and Michelin sounds real good. $60 rebate on 4. BUT. The closes store to us tells me that company policy prohibits them 'up-sizing' more than 3% over stock. Period. Why do you think this is?

I tried to 'up-size' on our LR Freelander from 215/65/16 to 225/70/16, but was told this would be a 5 1/2% increase.

I've been buying tires as Costco for years. By the way, if they don't have the tire you want, they can probably get it fairly quickly. I've special ordered from them. My experience has been very positive. (No affiliatiion, blah blah ...)

Their liability insurance, since they have such a strong policy of backing their products, prohibits them from fitting any size or type of tire not in the OEM specifications for the particular vehicle.

If you want to replace the standard size, Costco is great. If you want to lift, etc., wrong place.

One more time! You CAN buy any size that you want from Costco they will mount and balance the tire for you. BUT? They just won't install them on to your truck. You have to do it at home. So if you want to take advantage of the sale you will need to bring the rim in off the truck. They will do it.

I have to admit costco has good prices but they suck on their service department.

Ya that's what I thought...... BUT I called the costco here on maui and I told them I'm buying some new wheels and I would like to buy some 285's and have them put on the rim (not the truck).. He said they wouldn't do it and I could call back and talk to the manager bla bla bla.... Well I haven't called back yet.. Maybe our costco just SUCKS!! ya that's it!

I did go to walmart today and asked the price of the BFG All Terrains 285/75/16 D rating and she quoted me 163.88 per tire and another 10 per tire to mount onto rim... I think It actually is cheaper than the costco price.. They said no problem to mounting it to another rim for me..

So now I'm thinking of getting some pro comps 1079's and grinding my calipers a little to make them fit.. I really like that rim.. more into the ol school look but with a touch of

I had a bad experience with costco.. I bought a set of tires and had a bad vibration at highway speeds, they balanced and rebalanced two times I still had a vibration. They said thats all they could do.I finally went to a goodyear store and they put the tires on their balancer and could clearly see that the new tires were out of round by about a half inch. I put a set of goodyears on and sent those tires back to costco.. problem solved

I bought some bridgstones for my 89 toy and had similar problems with them. I also ran over a nail and had them fix it but it still had a small leak in it. I told them if they can't fix it the tire is under warranty and they need to replace it. they told me that that a week for a tire to loose 10 pound of air is acceptable and it is probably a cracked rim. Needless to say I went to wheel works and they fixed the leak. I told myself that I will not buy anymore tires from costco. I don't care how cheap in price they are. not worth the headache.

Yeah the first guy I talked to at Costco told me that I could buy the tires but I had to get it mounted elsewhere. But when I called back the next person told me that they would mount and balance it, just not put it on the truck. Liability?? So I'm guessing it depends which "peon" you talk to? LOL!!!
But if Walmart will do it then it's only like $12 cheaper at Costco. But at least Walmart will mount it on the truck for you!

I'd go with Walmart!!

Edit: Hey Scott I just checked the Samsclub website, (Sams Club is Walmarts Costco) The 285's are $183.04 ea. The M/T's are $209.48. I think they may have quoted you the wrong price. Don't know? Hopefully they will honor the price that they quoted you!

You guys who are talking about cheap tires from Costco or Walmart are forgeting they usually don't have he Haweka adapter and road force balancer. The road force balance is good to have but not essential but the Haweka adapter is required if you want a vibration free ride.

I haven't purchased tires in a couple of years, but Discount Tire used to have a "price match" policy. So I would get Costco's price and then go over and buy the tires at Discount. A lot less hassle, tires would be in stock, and could upsize with fewer problems.

Does anyone know a place on Oahu that has the Haweka adapter???

Since we live on a rock! Our choices are limited. 4wheelparts here didn't even know what that was!

Some one stated that Costco uses the Haweka adapter.
