Ok guys I am about to purchase a Double Cab Tacoma Offroad PreRunner. The only thing is I am indecisive. I can't for the life of me decide what color to get. They have a nice black on on the lot that I have actually been driving for the last couple days to try it out. But I swore off black a year ago when my fiances car started showing a LOT of wear. It shows tons of dirt, and every inperfection. And I am somewhat a perfectionist.
So please post a reply telling me what color you would chose. Even if you already have one color, and you were to do it over again, what would you do. Would you chose the same? Is black that bad on the tacoma. Maybe some owners of the black could help me out. I notice that the black is kind of a different black. It has a lot of pearl in it, and I think that it wouldnt show as much as a normal black would. Please give me some advice. I am driving myself crazy. I also really like the Speedway blue, Silver, and Dark Blue.
The black is nice, but it takes alot to keep looking nice. Pb has great advice on how to care for the paint. I have to wash mine at least once a week to keep it looking nice.
If I could do it over again, I might have bought an Inidigo Ink truck... but the black just looks so nice when its clean.
I would most likely buy the "Speedway Blue"!
I just wish they made it a shade darker, sometimes it look like a "baby blue" kind of "GAY" (No offense) just MHO!
But some of them are a shade darker and they look like a "Rich Deep Blue". (Awesome)
Black Sand pearl looks really good. I also like the silver but everyone has that color. And white is also very popular. Dont really see alot of Black tacomas in my area though.
Im glad i have a black truck just wash it once a week and keep it clean. I drive thru a dirt road EVERYDAY for work and my truck looks sweet when its clean. Makes you want to drive it more when its super clean. Turns alot of head too. I say go Black.
I bought a white one.Easy to keep clean, cooler and dosent show scratches as much. When you touch up paint chips its very hard to tell.I wash it once a month.I have an 02 that is fire mist red.To keep it clean you have to wash it every week.I will never own anything but white.
I've got black and don't seem to have much trouble keeping it clean (wash every other week). On a side note, pony up another 5K and get the 4x4. My co-worker got the pre-runner and got stuck in grass twice this week cutting wood.
It's been a little slick with the rain this week but I had to bust on him for getting stuck with an offroad truck in the middle of suburbia.

If you want easy to keep clean...and one that looks clean even when it's dirty, there is nothing better than silver!
I used to have a black car that I did car shows with, and it wore me out trying tokeep the black spotless. Both of my vehicles are silver now, though I actually preferred the Speedway Blue on the Tacomas. When it came time to deal, the last 05 they had was silver, which was my second choice...and they made it worth my while to take it instead of an 06.
If you decide you have to have black, look into a polish system called Zaino...you'll never regret using it to keep the black scratch/swirl free.
My preferance is black, or that darker blue color is really nice to me. But as far as ease of maintenance, the silver or white would probably be better.
I expect to get a lot of scratches in the future with all of my off-roading, so I chose white, for both of my 06 tacomas.
For darker colors it's easier to see the scratches, white and silver not so much.
White is super common along with silver. Silver is the most popular color by choice for any vehicle, then comes white. Or so I read somewhere.
off subject - If I had my sports car, I would just get the color I wanted, regardless of what it took to maintain it. Trucks are a little different for me
Anyways, good luck with your choice!

My color choices, in order of preference, were black, speedway, silver, and indigo. Sound familiar? I went through a lot of flopping around (right up until I signed actually), and ended up with black primarily because that's what was on the lot and I didn't want to do a locate/order (and they were getting me an 07 for the 06 price). A couple of my own thoughts/opinions:
- as you say, the black isn't really black, more like a really really really dark charcoal gray. It still shows dust a lot more than silver will. One thing I am finding with having black is that color highlights are kind of a challenge. Any other color looks decent with either color matched or black badges and rims. On a black truck, I've only seen a couple of black rims that I really like; I'll reserve final judgement until I see it, but black badges on a black truck probably isn't my taste. I've thought about doing them in red (along with eventual bumper and sliders), but... I dunno, ya know?
- different areas have common colors. If you want to stand out, you have to base that on your area. There are a ton of silvers around here, quite a few indigos, a fair number of blacks and speedways, hardly any whites. How common it is is what made me shy away from silver, but it seems to be the most forgiving color and blacking things out looks good. I really like speedway, but it's awful close to the color of my car and I wasn't sure if I wanted to stand out that much (either on the street or in the woods). And in the end, at least to me, indigo may as well be black unless you just really like the shade of blue.
If I were to do it over again? Either silver or speedway with blacked out accents. Possibly color matched accents on the speedway.
To whom asked what dealership I was working with, it is Molle Toyota. Unless you have the "hookup" somewhere else. I do live in Overland Park. I work on State Line though.
I know it's not as common, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Impulse Red. It has to be seen in person to be appreciated. I saw 2K6TAC's truck the other day in person, and it was SHARP, especially with the chrome wheels! For me, it was between silver, indigo ink, and impulse red (in order of preference). I went with the silver for ease of maintenance, but if you want something that will stand out, you might want to look at another color...

Thanks for the gracious comments Flux! I spent 2 hours today just detailing the interior. I hate to have a dirty ride. I do owe a lot to Pb for teaching me how to properly detail my truck.
