DRL - Daytime Running Lights - Yet another variation W/Pics

I did this mod this morning. It took parts from a few different people. I wanted to keep it simple and Clean! Here is how I did it.

First I bought the recommended connector that fit in the spot where the blue plug is

I bought extra 16g wire, Butt connectors with heat shrink & Crimp connectors

i connected the wires

Wrapped it in tape

Then I poked out the blue plug and put in the new connectors

Then I zip tied all the wire

Then I put the crimp connector on the green wire to the marker lights. I also used a little bulb grease to waterproof the connection

And here is the finished product

The first pic is the normal running lights, the second has the flashers on (caught mid flash) and the last is all of the lights on

The whole thing took about an hour and a half taking my time. I like how it turned out.

Do you have any pictures of how you mounted your front license plate?? I hate having mine on the bumper like it normally is. Do you ever get hasseled for having it down so low?

I'll have to take some pics. I made a frame out of aluminum angle stock and stainless hardware. Here is a quick drawing of the frame. The upper corners mount to the excess threads on the bumper bolts with two extra nuts

I think I am going to keep the foglight function stock. i just wanted the running lights that would actually show up, since the corner lights are so dim.

Very good. Do you happen to know the part # for the connector? How much$$ Did you look at other options like Radio Shack for parts?

Doesn't that mess up your approach angle?

So does the black 16g wire go into an empty fuse slot or do you cut it off at the end of where you had it crimped to the green wire?

It is actually tucked up in there petty tight. It might take a degree and half off my appraoch angle, but it doesn't reallt impact my suburbanite uses. I did drive it sraight up a pretty steep berm for kicks when I first installed it and it didn't even come close to touching

I did look at a few autopart stores, but they only had the domestic parts and non of them have the built in seal. The part # is 82998-12440 and they cost $6.01 each. Kinda pricey, but I was willing to pay it for the perfect fit. When I ordered them they told me they were on national backorder, but it still only took 2 days to get them in.

I just did your way of the DRL mod today. It came out real nice but I was hoping for it to turn on once my key was turned. It is also pretty dim until you signal and I wasn't too fond of that either. I was actually looking into it being bright right off the start maybe the side amber to signal, so I probably will rewire the entire mod and start all over.
Nice setup though but just not the way I want it to be.

There is another write up for that which involves directing the wires directly into the fuse box under the dash. Similar but a little more time consuming.
