They're absolutely fine under normal use and with stock sized tires. Any larger tire and wheel combo you should upgrade or if you do a lot of heavy duty four wheeling get a performance shock like Bilsteins, Edelbrock, Rancho, KYB or Monroes. On my past 4x4 vehicles I usually changed shocks around the 30K mile mark or when I noticed them fading badly. The fronts wear out much more quickly then the backs do.
