i bought my 2006 XR fully expecting to keep it for 10+ years. i currently have 9100miles and its away for the winter. My winter vehicle is my 2001 oldsmobile bravada (4.3l v6 AWD S10) with 150k on it and its going strong, spent a good couple grand this summer getting most everything fixed tho. with a dedicated summer and winter vehicle i should be able to make both last more years, and at least i can drive one to the store to buy parts for the other!

i read a good article a few years back in Forbes magazine which gave some very convincing arguments for buying vehicles new, and keeping them for 10years. while i cant remember the exact details it did convince me, i will try to track that article down, it was really good.

I purchased my '06 D cab TRD with 4400 miles on it on September 1st, I now on November 15th I have 12,000 miles on it! My typical year is 33,000 miles, I am currently on a pace to exceed that.

I purchased my truck for a three reasons, resale, mileage, and reliability. I can estimate that I will have 150,000 miles on mine before it's paid off, and if luck hold true as it did with all of my other trucks, it will look as good then as it does now.

I fully expect to replace my rear bumber a few times, as with my last few trucks. When you see that many miles, someone is surely going to rearend you! I have been hit probably 6 times in the last 4 years, twice pretty seriously. BTW, a Subaru is no match for a Jeep with a class III hitch!

My last truck I kept for 10 years witj 57K on it wheb I got rid of it. I would hope to get 10 years out of the Tacoma. I've had it a year with only 5K on it. Its great to be retired.
