Bull Bars????

What's the deal with a "Bull bar" Do you guys ram into bulls? Not trying to start anything? But I've been wondering what purpose are they used for?
I mean the arguement could be made that they protect the front end if you bang something? But is that something that you guys do on a regular basis?
I understand the concept behind the brush guard. (And the brush guard looks way cool!)
But I don't se the point of the Bull bar???

Bull bars rule!! (Actually, I just like the looks of it - Except for mounting lights, they are useless).

I like the look. I needed something to hold my PIAAs, and IMO brush gaurds cover up the good looking front end of this truck. It's that simple. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. There's lots of accessories that I see on peoples trucks that I don't like. My Westin Bull Bar does exactly what I wanted it to do. It still looks and works like new. No rust or chipping powdercoat. So stop hatin'

I had one on my Sport Trac and loved the looks. I think it would provide protection if you hit something (depending how hard). My question would be, would your air bags deploy if you had a bull bar? I am thinking it would not.

It would if you hit something hard enough. The bull bar would not change much (it might absorb some of the impact). Remember you don't need to hit something to have your airbag deploy.
If you chained your truck with 50 feet of slack to a pole and went as fast as you could until the slack ran out.....When your truck comes to a quick halt your airbag would deploy, but you still did not hit anything

I like how they look. Especially with a nice set of lights. But if I get one my truck will not fit in my garage.

Yeah. Our air bags work by deceleration, as well as impact.

Humm....in theory, yes. Reality, slim to no. Airbags are deployed by a number of G sensors activating at the same time. Your theory sounds good, you'd be going 50 and come to a dead stop and send your G sensors over their limit. But, as a fireman for 9 years, I've seen some amazing head on crashes that haven't set off airbags. The amount of energy that is abosrbed on a head on crash is astronomical, even at low speeds. It really depends on the manufacturer of the sensors, where they are placed, and how many are activated and at what time. But in a perfect world, your theory sounds good.

Somebody needs to try it and find out for sure. Not me.
