ok Ive got about 400 miles on my new truck....I still love it but am curious about a noise when i have the clutch depressed.
if im coming to a stop with the clutch in, and hit (even shallow) bumps
i get this clunking or banging up front ..It seems wrong.... but the truck runs fine as soon as i engage it again.... I am praying this isnt a early symptom of the clutch shudder/chatter,
that the other stick shift owners have.
and to update on an earlier post about being difficult to shift into first....its getting alot easier now that its breaking in...(as i was told it would) so thanks for the info you guys were right.

I don't want to sound like I'm burning you, but how long have you been driving a stick? If you wait too long while applying the brake when slowing down before pushing in the clutch when the RPMs are low, you'll get the clunk. I have had a clunk when I'm ORing, but only 2wice, and it was my own fault (using the tranny to engine brake downhill, pushed in the clutch, then it clunked). That being said, I'm not worried about it...it's probably normal

no offense taken....I used to drive stick for a few years, on two separate cars,,however its been 10 years since. but ive never driven a stick that wasnt broken in...
it is very different than i remember...that being said , I have noticed the shifting is getting smoother and quieter, with breakin.....
my only question was that, your coming to a stop sign , say in 4th gear,(but really any gear) you push on the clutch pedal the whole way down.... now keep the pedal down and your coasting over some bumps,,,,with the pedal still to the floor,,, there is a clunking sound like something is loose inside the tranny, and i can feel it through the pedals and floor.....after i engage the clutch again all is well, and bumps dont cause clunks... so the question is , is this normal for some part in the clutch assembly to float free and move around to cause a clunking sound.
if it is normal than ok cool im happy, if not, then ill go see the shop.

From what you describe, that's not normal. If you have the clutch all the way to the floor and coast over bumps you shouldn't hear anything rattling. The drive by no wire is a little tricky to get used to when shifting. My wife drove the truck yesterday for the second time and she was butchering the shifts. It was hard to sit through and keep my mouth shut. Mine are silky smooth now that I'm used to it.
Go back to the dealer and have them check it out.

I've got 32k miles on my Tacoma and have the same sounds. Doesn't do it all the time, but enough. I've never brought it to the dealer because I'm sure when its there it won't do it. I also have the annoying squeeky clutch pedal.
There's a little drivetrain slack which is normal for a stick shift but not enough where it actually makes a clunking noise by itself. As said before, only when the timing was off with the shift have I heard a clunk but it was my own fault. Are you guys sure about that?

It could always be the so called "axle wrap". I sometimes get a thunk when coming to a stop, or within a couple second of stopping, usually after I had been driving like an ass (as in acceleration). I can feel that through the pedals, but it doesn't happen all the time. I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless it gets really bad.
