No idea which iPod to buy for Tacoma

Hey there.
Have an 06 Tacoma with factory radio, single CD (not changer).
I use to have a JVC that could play MP3's in my old truck, but not anymore. Do not want to install the JVC in the Taco again because the factory one looks good for now.
Anyways, never looked into buying an iPod because never needed it.

Question: WHICH iPod is most compatible with the factory radio and what cable do I need to buy? Do I simply need an iPod and cable or is there something else?

Are the hookups all the same on all the iPod's? I know the size is the main difference between them - not interested in video option and all that jazz. Circuit City said the only way to hook up iPod to factory radio is through transmitter, but I know that is BS because I read on here that there is some cable.

Thanks for any and all help
ET

Here's my solution:

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t63428.html

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t90753.html

Any iPod will do, but if you want to use the iPod2Car don't get the shuffle. My suggestion is, don't cut corners and go for the cheapest options. The iPod2Car is around $150, and more expensive than the USA Spec, but allows charging, is easy to install, and you can control your music via the iPod. Stay away from anything that limits you to using the head unit to change music. Clumsy, very clumsy.

30+ gigs of music at my fingertips is the best mod on my Tacoma.

CC is full of BS!! I have the I-pod Nano and it works just fine. As for cables, there are a few depending upon what you want to spend. If you search "I-pod Interface" in here, you will see them (I don't remember which one I installed or I would tell you!!).

He wasn't saying that you couldn't use the nano. He said not the shuffle b/c on the shuffle you can't select the song you want to play, its always random.

I think ipod2car is the best b/c you never have to worry about your ipod running out of batteries b/c the cable acts as a charger.

With the exception of the Ipod shuffle, YES, all the hookups are the same.

I sorta riged up a way to hook up my ipod. I ended up using a line adapter into and put 2 amps in mine. One for mids and highs, and the other for the bass. On the amp i used for the mids and hi's, i put a "y" adapter for the rca jacks going into the inputs. with that extra set of rca's from the adapter, i ran a spliter that turns from the rca's into the headphone jack. That way you can control the sound from the ipod and the clarity is great without the expensive price

FYI, supposedly there is an all new iPod coming out at the beginning of next year. Totally redesigned. Possibly an 80 gig video iPod that doesn't have any buttons at all, but has a big touch screen.

^ Thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait to pick mine up. It'll probably run like $500 but as long as it's stable then it should be worth it.

You might want to wait until the Microsoft Zune comes out with their version of the IPOD. You might get a IPod at a good price- Price wars

^if it's like anything else microsoft has tried to make that competes with an established item (XBOX, Windows, etc) it will be over priced, clunky and barely work until you download numerous updates LOL

The Zune was released for sale today. http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/21...e-hits-shelves I would stick with an ipod. Mac stuff always runs better than Microsoft stuff, plus the ipod has been out longer, has more accessories, more music, software, etc. The Zune will probably have problems since it's so new. Just like the PS3. There are already reports of new PS3 customers in Japan having problems, and consoles that won't play the games.

Xbox wasn't overpriced...it was the same as the PS2, and it worked quite well. Had more problems with my PS than my Xbox
