Came across a neat little item today in my latest Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road magazine called the EZDown and thought I'd share. These are currently available only for the big 3 truck makers. Looks to be a future "Group Buy" I would think.
I called and talked to someone in their tech department about these for the Tacomas and they are now in the process of making these for the newer Tacomas. Estimated availablility will be this Spring. There will be only one version (unlike the hood struts) and the cost is around $70.00. When I mentioned to him about a possible group buy for ToyotaNation members he was very agreeable depending on the interest and demand.
Check it out when you get a chance. If you go to the bottom of the home page there is a drop-down menu where you can put in what vehicle and year your looking for and your e-mail address for future contact.

Cool! Thanks Cam. Can you do a sticky for this? I just watched the installation video for this and is seem pretty simple. Easier than the hood struts. No drilling required!

I mentioned an application for the 05+ Tacoma to Brian and he told me sometime in the spring also. They sell the other EZ-Down kits for $59.95.
They love us. I'm sure, when they are available, they would be willing to cut us another group discount.
Guess everyone is going to try and get in on this product. Redline is a better price. The $70.00 price I stated was for the big 3 full-size trucks. Guess once they become available maybe we can get into a pricing war!
im curious to what the purpous of these are? Practicality wise. The tailgate isnt heavy at all, and im not THAT lazy...yet
I guess i could see if my hands were full and i could just flip the latch and let it do its thing so i didnt need to bend over with it? Yeah, that would be helpful, so it doesnt slam open when you dont want it to. Guess i answered my own question. Now I want them because they ARE useful!
The really funny thing is that I have NEVER seen anyone open a tailgate like the guy in the top video
Eh, my dipshit friend has. That's also the same one that forced my pop n' lock open and made me realize that I did need the extensions.
Pretty much covers my facial expression:
Yeah they aren't essential but I think they are pretty cool and there have been a few times already that, if I could have opened the tailgate without putting the stuff in my hands down, I would have.
Like putting the tailgate down while holding onto my mountain bike. Takes at least one or two steps out of the whole process. For $50, some convenience and a little "cool" factor, I'll bite.

If we get a redline group buy going do you think we could fire up the hood strut group buy again for those that missed out or for the new members that were not around then? Maybe they could offer a deeper discount for buying both the hood and tailgate struts?
Yeah, I saw those in a magazine this week. It might not be real necessary for our trucks, but I might go for a Redline set if they can keep it below $50. Dodge and Fords have real heavy tailgates. I could certainly see the benefit of these struts on those trucks.
Neat idea. I would bite on this one too. Especially if they offered the hood struts and the tailgate strut also.

uncontrolled drop of a truck tailgate not only causes potential damage to your vehicle, it's also creates a serious safety hazard for yourself and others
