Knew it was raining, but damn. AS soon I pulled out of the parking lot was driving through over a foot of water, knew it was gonna be interesting trip. Put her in 4wd continued on.
Heading up along the creeks and streams in the hills was unbeilievable. Creeks were overflowing at every bridge. I scoped each cross, forutately most were only about 6inches of water over the top. Several houses and garages had water running right through them. There was mud, logs, rocks, and 3 home (ie 200-400 gallon) propane tanks rolling in the water hissing and spewing gas. Had a tree fall 50 ft in front me, had to get tow strap and move it. I was lucky I was driving my truck, not the car.
Got home to find some water in the basement, and I'm at one of the highest elevations in the county. But no damage, sure many others are not so lucky. State of emergency, so I sit and write this.

good luck. This storm gave us alot of rain and some tornados but no flooding. Glad to hear you didn't suffer too much damage, and the truck performed well.
I had a similar commute last night too. Highway wasn't too bad. Some standing water, but not a lot. I could still do 50-55 comfortably. I had it in 4hi as soon as I got on the highway and saw the water splashing just in case (last time it rained this bad i could feel the back tires spin slightly). I had no problems driving home except for the people that thought they needed to do 30mph in the passing lane. Then flash their lights at me when I pass after the finally get over.
I aimed for the water on the way home. lol It's nice having a vehicle that can plow through several inches of water without thinking twice. I hit a couple pockets of at least 6" water before getting to my inlaws. I wanted to go back to the closest one just to check the depth but I got "that look" from my wife.... All in all I had some fun despite the other drivers. Wife almost had a heart attack on the 2 deep parts, but mainly cuz it covered the windshield so bad we couldn't see anything. I knew the roads and maneurved slightly to stay on course while slowing down and letting the wipers work.
Ether way, like demonclearner, I was soooo glad to have the truck. My car would probably be floating in one of those still. Hell, it used to stall out if I drover through a couple inches. Maybe the new exhaust fixed that problem, but glad I didn't have to find out!

Pierced Tiger, you are only 25 miles away, but we musta got is worse. There are roads closed everywhere today. Spent much of the day cleaning up around here. Unbelievable what 4 inches in 3 hrs can do. Old timers saying worst flash flood in 50 years. I agree. Truck is clean as can be after that trip. We should be driving in snow right now... 60 in Nov aint right.

Well, I live in Newark Valley now, but work in Binghamton. It was mostly unaffected back country roads until I hit 17 then 81 so no real problems. Local radio made a comment about having 2 pages worth of city streets closed so I have no idea how bad it really was. Baby was waking up every half hour last night so I more less went from point A to point B without paying much attention to the inbetween stuff. Saw the landslide clean up on 17 around Kamikaze curve tho. Kinda laughed when I heard 88 washed out AGAIN.
I hear ya about the floods now. Seems like it's gotten worse each time over the last 2-3 years. I'm really thinking they need to figure something out cuz this is what? the 3rd or 4th flood in 2 years?
As for the temps, I was planning on a snowsuit under the kids' halloween costumes, and here it is in the 50's and 60's..... Not really complaining about the heat, but I'm getting sick of the rain. All of the (two) off-road trails I know are mudholes now.

Honestly... IMO... that would be the "best" commute EVER! Crossing overflowing creeks... removing down trees... I see nothing negative! I am sure that it was nerve racking and such... but I love situations like that! Glad you made it back ok too! Seriously, flooded creeks can be very dangerous to cross.

I didn't get the 4runner into 4wd up in Ontario, it got 2" from the top of the bridges tho, Ontario for some reason has to add more road beneath the road to bringit above
stupid bastards, I wanted to drive like you did, I'm jealous
Glad your safe and your posessions aren't damaged
