shudder in rear end

Just wanted to share something a learned the other day from my friendly toyota parts guy. I've been around and wrenched on vehicles of all types all my life, but when I changed my diff fluid several months ago I have experienced a shudder in the rearend ever since, especially noticable when backing out my driveway or when first taking off (mainly when turning). It was so noticable passengers would ask me what's wrong with your truck? I do have the LSD and I did add the fm booster. Even after 5 trips to florida it still shuddered when making turns at a slow speed. I mentioned this to the parts guy (he's an old offroader with several older land cruisers) and he educated me by saying to "just go and do figure 8's" in an empty parking lot for 2 to 3 minutes....and to my surprise it's gone! something so simple. Just goes to show you, you can learn something new everyday.

This may be a dumb question. But, what does doing figure 8s, for 2-3mins, in an empty parking lot have to do with fixing rearend shudder?

I don't know about toyota rear ends, but it's done on dodge's to get the oil into the wheel bearings. On dodge's, the rear differential oil flows thru the axle housing to the bearings. Acting as bearing grease. Best to check your oil level, as if it's the same as dodge, you may be a bit low now due to the axle housings filling up.
