Gen6 Need Some Help On This Check Engine Light

Well I think I got the curse when it comes to these kind of things. Before I take it in to the dealer, just want to know if any of you guys have had this problem? My truck only has 9,800 miles on my 06 4x4 trd and the check engine light came on. My buddy says it does it when its time for sched maint. I dont really buy that... any suggests?

What exactly does the light look like? Like a little engine or does it say maint reqd?

The little engine light means you need an oil change. The maint reqd means you need maintanance. hope that helps.

Like what kind of maint? I mean is it specific as in valve adjust or just filling the washer fluid?

I read this thrd a couple of times and I think someone might be confused.

Maintenance Req'd Light -> oil change/sched maint -ref your manual (read the manual, then use the search button, then post question?)

Check Engine or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) -> Triggered when PCM detects an error condition (either operation outside programmed range, malfunctioning sensor, or control, etc.) Most commonly caused by not tightening the fuel cap until it clicks. (if this happens, several "drive cycles" will clear the code, or you can use a code reader to clear it) For other triggers, a code reader is req'd to read the error code and/or clear it. If not due to fuel cap being loose, don't ignore this. Depending on the prblm, continued operation can cause damage.

Again, description of the indicators and meanings are shown in the manual.
