Radiator Cover

Anyone know if anyone makes a rad cover for the new Tacoma, and please don't say just use a piece of cardboard? I'm looking for a proper cold weather cover.

You could get a Lund grill insert and then block the little holes from behind with something black. Maybe duct tape? Or electrical tape. They make real wide electrical tape rolls.

you beat me to it PB. I was gonna say "duct tape!! instead of card board!" lol

Seriously though, what about a vinyl (or whatever it is) one like they use on big rigs and adapt it to the taco? I've never seen anything for something smaller than a bus or rig. I've seen a few pickups with cardboard so I assume that was all they could come up with.

Just out of curiousity, why do you want to cover it? Does it get that cold where you are? The truck seems to warm up quickly regardless of the outside temp so far. I suppose I'll find out this year since it'll be my first full winter, and if it drops to -25F like it did a couple years ago.

I Googled the coordinates under Adventure North's user title. He's in NW China somewhere.

hmmmmm.... that changes things... Maybe a rice mat? Or maybe a black rubber floor mat? Cut a few holes in it, and hang it from zip ties or something for now?

Try using GPS coordinates.

That's what I'm looking for. I see them all over the place on chevs, fords and dodges but can't find one for a Tacoma. Work has me heading North to Thunderbay for a few months this winter, so yeah it's going to be mighty cold. In really cold temps the truck may have trouble reaching proper operatring temps quickly with super fridgid air flowing through the bay, without something restricting airflow through the rad the engine may not warm up enough which means gas mileage decreases dramatically and engine wear increases.

As far as warming up over the last two winters I have found the opposite with my truck. It seems to take longer then my 00 did, and on a really frosty mornings it can sometimes take more then 10 minutes of driving before the engine reaches a good temp.

I have found that doing the electric fan mod has made my engine warm up a lot faster than it did with the stock fan. Without a fan running the engine gets up to 190 in about 5 minutes, even when it's real cold outside.

You guys are getting closer but still no.
Try this locator, just copy and paste and you'll see where I am. http://boulter.com/gps/

As for the fan that's not the issue, it's the cold air flowing through the open rad as you drive that's the problem, the fan clutch is typically not engaged when driving, it's usually only engaged when idling or driving very slow thus an electric fan wouldn't help much in this case. I may have to have to look into having a cover made, I found a place that does custom covers but have had no luck finding an over the counter pre made one. Oh well no biggie. Thanks anyway.
