Yea, it is quite a bit more actually.
like Flash550 said it comes with a 7 Pin Trailer Plug, a Transmission Cooler and a 130amp alternator instead of the stock 100amp one. This is all included with a Class IV Hitch rated for 6500lbs. The biggest aftermarket hitch you can get AFAIK is Class III which is only rated for 5000lbs and you wont get the 7 Pin plug, Trans Cooler or the Heavy Duty Alt.

It was the coolers (both) that absolutely sold me on this package. Here in the AZ desert their use just can't help but to extend the life of our drivetrains. V6/AT 06 PreRunner AC.
Thanks. I've been waiting for a few months for a non TRD double cab and now the dealer says the only way to get the tow pkg and LSD is on either the Sport or Off Road (w/locker). They say that that's the way toyota's building them but toyota say otherwise. We'll see.
In the meantime I think I'll hold out for both.
I bought a 2007 4X4 Access cab TRD Offroad and the only way I could get it was with the factory tow package, but after reading up on it, I also liked the idea of the trans and engine oil coolers. After getting the truck home in my garage, I went over it pretty carefully to familiarize myself with where everything was and how it worked. I was looking for a radiator type engine oil cooler, but the only extra one I could find was for the tranny. I came back inside and went through the sales literature again and sure enough the tow package came with an engine oil cooler. Back to the garage to search again. Then I noticed a couple of hoses going to the area of the oil filter. Closer inspection revealed that those hoses were coolant lines from the intake manifold region that went to a heat exchanger unit sandwiched between the oil filter housing and the oil filter. The engine oil is warmed during engine warm up and cooled during engine operation by the engine coolant system. Very ingenious Toyota! No bypass system required during engine warm up and the cooling is accomplished by the more effective liquid to liquid heat exchange.
I have breakfast every Saturday with a highschool buddy who was the votech auto mechanics instructor for a local junior college for 25 years. I told him I had an engine oil cooler and asked if he thought he could find it. After 30 minutes under the hood in Shoneys parking lot, I took pity on him and pointed it out to him. It was good for a laugh.

Yup, me too. That was the first thing I looked for on the package. I asked the salesman what came with the tow package and he said the tow hitch.... A quick look at the sticker revealed all other things mentioned above.
yea you gotta love the tacoma tow package, saddest thing is if you get the a towing package from nissan, ford or chevy you'll give that stuff too, except the hitch. Freaking retarded if you ask me why in gods name would you sell a tow package that doesn't include a hitch?
