So now that I ahe had my scangauge for a few months, I was wondering what everyone sees as their normal operating temperature of their taco. Mine runs around 186-190 with the highest ever I have seen it at 193. So what does your taco normally run at, and what is the highest engine temp you have seen.
Highest I have seen with the scanguage is 188 this is in Houston cruising on the highway on a 90+ degree day. Most of the time reads 184 around town or stop and go.
I think mine is usually around 190-193...highest I have seen is 197-198...never has gone above that so I was thinking it was a 198 degree thermostat...the temp gauge in the cluster is a little below half so I know its in range.

182-184 normal driving, 188 when im on it, and when i drag race my truck when its warm out, its gone to 199 or 200 i forget what. this was @ 10 psi, so im sure that did not help.
I think in a previous thread we determined that the I4 and V6 have different thermostats, and thus operating temps, by about 6 degrees. Forget which was higher though, and I'm too lazy to search for you.

Anybody ever tried using a lower temp thermostat ? And any negative effects or emission problems ? I recall older tacomas could be run with 180 thermostats .

No. there are plenty of negative effects, depending on the extent of what you do, particularly efficiency and emission prblms. (at the extreme, if you go too low, the ECU will never see the engine warm up and so you'll run open loop and get an error code)
You don't want to do that. Trust that engineering selected the appropriate thermostat temp for your engine.

On my trip to vegas I noticed a max temp of 206F in memory but didn't notice when that was. I did see as high as 203F while climbing some serious grades.

I run 184 -190 on my Scangauge, I was going to ask if that was normal, but you beat me to it. A buddy of mine that lives in Arizona has a Chevy half ton truck and pulls a monster trailer with it for his work, he installed a desert cooler, that sprays a mist of wather into the radiator and cools it. Its on a switch that he can turn on / off, it looked really cool. He told me he got it at an RV dealership and it was designed for big motorhomes, but mod'd it for his truck,
