2006 Tacoma AT Sevice

I have a 2006 Tacoma, 5-speed AT, 4wd, 4liter. I know Toyota recommends AT fluid change every 30k, but I was planning on doing it every 15k just for good measure. The problem is that I can't find a transmission dipstick anywhere in the engine compartment. Does anyone know how I go about refilling the trans? Thanks for any info!

On the 5 speed auto it is lifetime fluid, no need to touch it. To change it involves a lengthy complicated set of steps which I would leave to the dealer to perform. There is no dipstick for the auto because it doesn't require service and is a sealed unit.

There is a link to a bunch of pdfs dealing with the AT. But like AN said, and as you will see when looking at them, its no Sunday picnic.

Thanks to both of you for the info... I have to admit that I'm a little reluctant to leave AT fluid go for the "lifetime" of the truck. I might have to pay the dealer to flush it for me some time down the road.. Thx again..

In reading the JOKE that Toyota calls the Passport it would appear if I've studied it long enough that they recommend AT fluid change every 60K if you do any towing.

It does say to inspect the AT fluid every 15, which appears to mean check for leaks?

Is it to much for Toyota to provide a simple one page maintenance schedule, they broke something that was fixed 50 years ago.

The 30k change interval applies to the Manual tranny only.
