Reminder story, e-brake and cold temps

Hadnt driven the truck for a few days. Last time I parked her it was after driving through a flood, then I washed her, then waxed her for winter. Temp was a balmy 50. Parked, and since my driveway is steep. Put on park brake.

Got some snow yesterday, so took our car with snow tires (haven't put them on truck yet). Truck still sitting with e-brake on.

This a.m. its 25, get in truck, release brake. nothing. ut-oh. crap. Yep, e-brake frozen. So try to rock, with foot still on brake in case it gives. nothing. try it again, nothing. Tried moving ahead in 1st, felt like I was slipping clutch. So I stopped, jumped back in my seat pissed off, and she broke free!

My own fault, just a friendly reminder. Watch the temp when using your the ebrake.

I had a problem with my Sonoma regarding that, but it was when I took the wheels off to powerspray the wheel wells when I was getting ready to sell it. Not cool, and when it came free, it made a really nasty clunk. I hope I don't have problems with the Taco...but that's definately a disadvantage of not having rear disc brakes.

^^^ I've had this happen with disc brakes too on my mom's mini-van. It's not just a drum brake thing, it is however more common with drum brakes.

it's not the pads/shoes freezing to the rotors/drums. It's the cables and linkages freezing up and not releasing. It can happen to any type of brake system
