Head Unit - Narrowing Down..

OK...For the experts, I have narrowed my radio choices to the following: Pioneer DEHP6800MP OR DEHP7800MP. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which way to go? Also, any suggestions regarding amps and speakers that would be a good compliment to one of these units? Subs?? I want a little "thump" with some good, loud, rich sound.

I would go with whichever one does not have a motorized face plate... it WILL break.... Having said that I have always had Pioneer and have never been dissapointed... ever...

I've got a Pioneer Premier DEH-P930, which has a motorized face. It's over 5 years old and still works like new. But I will agree that when radios are made more complex it also increases the chance of something failing.

I decided against Pioneer. I have had a couple back in the day (97-2000) that I liked just fine but I've found that I really like the features of the JVC decks so much more. Real auxilary-in RCA jacks and USB ports are a couple of the features I can't like without. Pioneer is notorious for forcing you to use a proprietary adapter to get aux-in. If I want that I'll just get a DF-TOY for my stock stereo. No, nothing wrong witht Pioneer decks per se' but they don't float my boat.

As far as pure audio decks I like this JVC http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKDAR870 - it's got a boat load of features and you can make the display orange! It can be had for much less on ebay.

I just purchased this deck myself http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKDDV6200 - it plays video DVD's, mp3 DVD's, mp3 CD's, Divx movies, mp3's off USB, has RCA auxilary in's, of course video out that displays track name information on a separate big LCD, has satellite and CD changer control, and it just rules as far as features are concerned. http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKDDV6200 - $289 there but I found one on ebay for $199 shipped.

hmmm... honestly... i've gone thru some head units... pioneer makes the most user friendly ones... which is very good... i have dvd player by pioneer right now.... but ALPINE sounds a WHOLE LOT BETTER!!! The looks of the alpine is old, and the pioneer updates more on innovation. ur call... win some lose some. as for subs... i like SQ so i went with arc audio components with image dynamics subs. That was in my camry, my taco has nothing but the dvd player.

Did you stay with the stock speakers? How's the sound?

Yea i Did, i'm poort. it boosted it a LOT though, a lot more crisp. But then again I got my head unit from a friend for free bc he got a navigation when the unit was suppose to be like $900. So i weigh it out. I had a pretty high end alpine just before this one on my camry and i notice a BIG diff from my pioneer 8400MP. And that was with a system already. This is my old car/system. I MISS IT TERRIBLY!!! but i love my taco MORE!
