hey all. i've been on TN for a while. i had a '91 4x4 pickup and traded it in last week on a brand new '07 taco prerunner access cab, 4 cyl, 5 speed. i have a couple of questions and i hope that someone can help me out.
#1- i would like to get some wider tires when these where out. there does not appear to be too much room between the tire and the steering knuckle/spindle assembly. what is the widest tire that anyone has installed that was not any taller?
#2- what kind of mpg's are ya'll averaging? i have filled mine up twice since i bought it last week and the first tank average 22.6 and the second was 23.75. i was pleased with both, but i'm just wondering if it will get better as the motor breaks in more.
thanks for the help.

JD I'd welcome you to the nation but since you've been here a while welcome to our part of the nation. Just be forwarned the two inquiries you touched on have been beat to death in here you might want invest in a flame suit because the search nazzi's are a comin'. But seriously you can find loads of info on those two subjects in this forum and again welcome.
As far as the tires go try this link it will give you an idea of different tire sizes next to what you have.
265/75/16 will rub from what I've heard--- I have 265-70-16, which is not much taller than your 245, with absolutely no rubbing... welcome and don't worry about the search nazis... just any time gas and mpg come up on here, better to search first... other hot topics that I would search for include, but are not limited to...
yeah, we have those guys over there too, but it usually isn't too bad. i searched on the tires and could not find anything. i didn't search on the mpg's because the search sucks. it will give you all kinds of crap. plus i just need it for the 4cyl prerunner. i have a buddy that has a 2006 4 door 4x4 TRD all that stuff and he averages about 18mpg's with his. i'm very happy with the mpg's so far. my old truck had the 22re and i was averaging about 18 on that one. and it had no power at all. i want wider tires. not too concerned about height. the height looks good, but they look like spares from compact cars. they are pretty skinny. i think the size is 245/75r16, but i'll have to check again. i think i can squeeze some 255's on there, but i'm not sure.

i figured the mileage would get better as it gets broke in, i'm not too worried about the mileage, but it makes me feel better that i'm getting over 20mpg. as for the tires, i can't go too much wider than what i have now. i'm gonna get some new wheels when i save up some cash and talk the old lady into it. i'm thinking about 255/70's but not sure yet. we'll have to see in another 30k miles or so.

I average well over 21 mpg on my 6 cyl prerunner with a lot of city driving (but still breaking it in at 6600 miles) so you should be getting at least 23 mph and probably can get closer to 27 mpg on the 4 cyl if you add a tonneau, a little higher air pressure in your tires and you drive it easy. Enjoy your new ride!!
