Post Engineers as Tacoma Owners?

Ok, so my curiosity is getting the better of me. When I bought my Tacoma, my salesman kept commenting on how many engineers are buying the Tacoma. He was so amazed with that fact and I really have no idea why. I even heard him saying it to other customers when I picked up my truck.

So... how many of you guys and girls are engineers? I'm interested in finding out if he was right or not. It struck me as an interesting fact and I figure this is a great place to find out more about it.

I'll get the ball rolling: Both my wife and I are engineers. We bought the tacoma because of reliability ratings and the quality that Toyota is known for. That... and the truck is just damnn hot!

Not an engineer, but I'm curious about this. I suspect it may be a salesman's ploy. Whenever I'm on a car lot, the salesman will ask where I live -- followed by, "We sell a lot of [vehicles] to people from there".

I'm an EE by degree but my current job title is lead network/hardware engineer. I bought my truck because of its great looks and the toyota reliability.

I have a BSME. However, I am not a practicing engineer. I hate that shit...cause I pretty much suck at it. I do cad/cam stuff and structural design work.

First time poster, long time lurker; great topic, love the forum...

Interesting observation, so I had to speak up too. I'm a CE by degree (EE + Software) and I'm a lead software engineer at a mobile phone developer here in Chicago-land (but I live safely over the border in WI, thank you very much).

Maybe it is that all of the research you do that tends to point in the same direction...the Tacoma is just a great truck. It is reliable, has a great reputation and a dedicated following...and, oh yeah, looks great doing it too.

I have to say in general that I don't see many trucks in the parking lot of my particular high-tech company (tons of Toyota and Honda sedans, etc), but the other day I saw another brand new Tacoma parked out there. Cool!

Well, there are 6 Tacoma's in my parking lot at work. But since it is an Engineering firm, that is not a good cross section of the general population.

I'm still a little suspicious like Splicer, but I like the responses so far.

I'm a mechanical engineer by degree. I actually studied design and manufacturing... I always imagined myself working for Toyota. But, I went where the money was and got stuck in the oil and gas industry. That's how I met my lovely wife so I have no regrets. Just wish she wasn't a better engineer than me... Hahaha...

BS in Information Systems, currently lead software test engineer.
I actually wanted to be a mechanic for Toyota, but don't like to get my hands dirty :-).....besides, money is too good in software.

CE/Enviro here. Currently in software development. A lot of exs, though once an engineer always an engineer. I could see a trend, form follows function.... Now, anyone know the percentage of PT Cruiser owners that are engineers?
