If you are trying to align your carrier bearing

don't waste your time. It will shift back to its original position all the way to the left after driving for a while. It is due the to the way it is clamped down. I torqued it to 50ft-lbs and 70ft-lbs and it still shifted back. From the FSM for 01-06 Tundra, the calls for 30 ft-lbs, for reference since I don't have the full FSM for the Tacoma. I had tried to align it to smooth the drive line out. It just made a little bit of difference, maybe it's all in my head

Does anyone happen to know the torque spec for 05-06 Tacoma? I don't think it makes it a difference anyways since it still shifted back at 70ft-lbs.

moving it left and right trying to align it with the transmission and rear differential to make the driveline smoother. Initially it was all the way to the left most from the factory. I moved it 4mm to the right and it went all the way back to the left due to the force of the driveshaft.

Ok maybe I'm missing something but I don't recall being able to move the carrier bearing left or right. Can someone explain, I'm tired so perhaps I'm just not seeing it.

I swore it was a little smoother when I was first playing around with it. Now it doesn't seem to make a difference where ever I move it.

Have you tried axle degree shims to try to eliminate the shudder?

If you loosen the carrier bearing mount, there will be play in the left and right directions

Yeah the axle shims are next I guess.. toytec 2.5 degree probably... heard they worked for some on the initial studder problem... hopefully they will work for me... cause I'm tired of the initial studder and vibration at about 20mph...

Hey aAdventure... ya the carrier moves left and right about and 1 - 1-1/2 inches. once the bolts are loosened..

aloha

So Hans did the vibe go away completely and then come back ?? just curious..

No vibrations came back. The odd thing was it seemed smoother when I moved it initially, but now it still seems the same, no more no less vibrations where ever I move it. I found out it moved the first time when I was retorquing everything. Today I just decided to check and it saw it move all the way again.

That is interesting because when I installed my spacer (pic above) I didn't notice or realize there was that much play. An inch sure seems like a lot of room for play. Cheers.
