Re-painted front end of silver 06 Tacoma

hey all:

To make a long story short i had some dings on my hood that went down to bare metal and had someone buff them out and touch up. But the buffer burnt me clear so I had to take the truck back to the dealer and they repainted the hood and blended the fenders. I got the trcuk back about 2 months ago and now I notice when the truck is in a shaded area the fenders are a totally different color than the rest of the truck. Its a darker silver color and really noticable. At first I never noticed so i'm wondering if thats just how the paint cured. Anyway i'm going to take it back and see if they can repaint it again and hopefully get a better color match. My question to all of you is if anyone on here has repainted a silver truck and had the same thing happen?????. I would think they could use computers to get an exact color match but I could be wrong... Thanks!

any metallic paint such as silver streak metallic is near impossible to match up to the rest of the truck with the painted area. i used to paint cars and silver was the biggest pain to paint. silver being the color it is, if you didn't spray even coats you can get a dark spot and then you're screwed. you have to start over. not cool. the only way to get it matched up is to drop about $8-10 grand in a whole paint job. sorry.

Take it back. Dont let them get away with bad work. It is possible to get a match if they take their time.

Goodluck getting any metallic silver to be the color from the factory! My Tundra is silver and I got a nasty paint chip in it that cracked the paint. The two shops I spoke to about fixing it suggested I stay way clear of repainting the hood. In their opinions, a metallic silver shouldn't be painted unless it needs bodywork. In the end they mixed some touchup with their computer and touched up/buffed out.

Even with the computer it is clear the color is different as metallic paints don't apply well becuase of the difference in the "metallic" content of each mix.

Thanks for the input. i'll probably take it back and see if they can get a closer match. I know it will never be like it was from the factory but i think they should be able to get it really close. It is obviously alot darker than the factory color. I tried making them JUST do the hood to begin with but they said they have to blend the fenders. Its one thing the hood's a different color but the fenders stick out like an orange hat with a green bill.

you can get it to match up, but you have to know how the truck was sprayed at the factory. basically with silver metallic you have to start at one end of the truck and spray a slow even coat all the way down, come back to where you started and do it again. if you go down, then come back you'll end up with an ugly striping effect. to match it up, you have to spray from the same direction the whole time. i have a silver metallic truck, i love silver, but i hated to paint it.
