Does anyone have the Goodyear Wrangler Maximum Traction/Reinforced tires? (MT/R) on their Taco's? I want to know how good they are compared to the BF's.
I am looking for new tires (I have the BFG All Terrain) and want to get something else other than those. The Goodyear's are the same ones that come stock on the Rubicon's.
Great offroad tire, I had them on my lifted Grand cherokee and loved them. A little loud on the road but nothing terrible. I had read they were bad in the snow, but I argue the opposite. I thought they were great. Problem is they wear quick. Probably only a 30k mile tire or so.
I agree with goldmember, MTR is a great tire. Great for offroad not so good on icy hwys but then not much is. They do wear fast and seem to get louder as the wear.
on the tirerack site their rated #4 out of 9... where the bf's are #7 out of 9....
firestone was rated #1 in that catagory.
i don't care much for using tireracks ratings for off road tires, almost everyone that rates them is talking about the road performance and not off road performance.
having said that, the mt/r's aren't designed for the exact same type of off roading as the bfg a/t's or m/t's. the mt/r's and good in sand and mud, but not as good as the bfg's. but the mt/r's are better in the rocks. so you decide which type of terrain you're more interested in
I mostly use my truck to go back and forth to work now and in the winter I like to "play" in the snow and dont like to be stopped by coming across something I cant go through. Saying that I basically just want a nice looking off road/ all terrain tire. I hate how car tires look on a truck so I wont go that route, just not soo sure what I should get yet.
I only want away from the BF's becuase everyone around here has them and yeah I know that probably means they are a good tire, I like to be different. LOL. I also looked at the YOKOHAMA Geolander M/T +, but not sure if thats such a good idea.
It depends on what type of action your truck sees. In the rocks the MTRs are pretty much the sh*t. The BFG MT's work better on a number of other surfaces though. The MTR's wear kinda fast due to their really soft compound where as the BFG MT's are one of the longer wearing max traction tires out there. I've been all over the board in my opinion of what tires are best but for a good all around really tough max traction tire the BFG MT's are tough to beat and are always near the top of the list. Also just to note the Jeep Rubicons now come with BFG MT's they are no longer sporting the MTRs. Also if your truck is a DD and snow is your thing you would be better served with a tire like the BFG AT's. Max traction tires are crap in snow and ice, you need something with sipping for those types of conditions, the only time a max traction tire is of benefit in snow is when it's really deep, like 120% of you axle height deep.
Edit: Hey Babaroga where are you located? I'm an Ontario res. myself.
I have some 285-70-17 Mtr's on helomaxx6chrome 17x9 and I love them....I have only had them for about 3 weeks though....Ill just say this, if you like to off road, and like the aggresive look/sound...you should go for them....I could post some pics tommoro if you'd like...

Small world I'm just outside of Sarnia. If your up for wheeling some time you should meet up with a me and a few of my buds. We usually go out by Camlachie, there is a half decent trail out there, there are also a couple of old unserviced roads that are really nasty (huge mud holes) that we've been down and stuck in more then once. Old lady smith is a good one, don't go alone though as there is probably a 90% chance you'll get stuck. If you're ever up for it you know where to find me.
As mentioned already, they suck on wet pavement or any slick surface. I have to turn across a set of recessed trolly tracks everyday and I can feel them slide over the metal. Not a super big deal, you just have to be aware and adjust how you drive.
If you're out in the snow I think some AT's would perform a lot better.
