Is there a TSB on the glovebox damper yet?

I know there are multiple threads on how shitty the interior is and the junk nub that holds the glove box damper...but is there a TSB or a better design for this yet? I was going to deal with having to put the damn thing together everytime, and I really didn't want my dash torn apart (nor do I want to half-ass fix it), but I can't stand it anymore.

I fixed mine by installing the top part first and using a small stick to wedge apart the piece the "hole" snaps on to. Then I installed the lower hole. It has worked well after that.

See I thought about epoxy-ing it into place, but then I though, this is a new truck and shouldn't do this, so that's what I wanted to know whether it had been redesigned, but I'm guessing not...cheap fricken plastic+bad engineering=breakage.

I measured diameter and slip-on depth of the attachment "nub" that extends from the lower dash panel (i.e. not the glove door). Went ACE hardware and found a thin mylar/nylon washer at that fits over th nub with a better pressure fit (slightly smaller ID). Attach the damper then the washer. Holds the damper in place on the "nub".

At least it's not like my mother's glove boxon her Galant. They've fixed it 4 times and it still is broken. In fact the one time they fixed it, we got all the way home, went to open the glovebox and it broke again. Speaking about that car, you guys should see the paint. Want to talk about a shitty job? I'd say 60% of the clearcoat has peeled off. It's a black car, and it looks like a holestein cow now.

I had a problem with mine too. The damper lost it spring and would not stay on, it also let the glovebox just fall. I decided to take it back and see what they said. They told me it was under warrenty and they would fix it, so they put on a new damper and it has not fallen off again, so it may just be the damper not being tight enough and not the mounting pegs.

have not had a problem with mine yet. Have taken my glove box off quite a few times just looking around back there and messing with the cabin filter. Kind of a pain gettin the damper back on, but it always stays on when i do...

I don't "continually remove the glove box". I put microfiber towels in there to dry off my truck when I wash it, so naturally, when I wash my truck, I have to open it to get to them. I have never removed the glove box...it just came off one day and it's getting to be a pain in the ass.

John H,

If you're asking me about size of washer, I don't remember. I measured for fit with a small plastic dial caliper that I carry in my truck---then took off to Ace H/W.

I disagree with folks that say this is no big deal if you don't take the glove box door out. It is meant to be removed---it came in handy when I tracked a rattle down to an HVAC duct end piece that was not correctly attached to a primary duct.

The poor dimensional fidelity of the plastic material and fitment of the glove box damper attachment points is just one of the little examples (indicators) of how Toyota quality has declined in the last few years.

mhadden---nice red truck!

I cut off a little piece of a thick nylon ziptie and stuck it in the little crack to spread it apart and keep the shock from coming off. It works great.
