Wiring question

I'm trying to wire up a set of Piaa 510 fogs, and I want to thread the wires with the switch into the cabin from the engine bay. How do I get past the firewall. I see a rubber gasket on the drivers side. Dio I make a slit through that and then seal it up with silicone? TIA.

That will work. Make the hole as small as possible though.

Years ago, I used to install mobile phones in cars, and we would tape the wires to a small piece of fish tape and use that to poke through the grommets, most of the time the seal on the wires was so tight, silicone wasn't needed, but I would use it anyway, just to be sure.

That's exactly what I did. I drilled a hold through the rubber grommet and sealed it with silicone. Like Fitz said, you don't really need the silicone because the grommet will tighten around the wires, but I'm a little anal.

I found an "extra" little pass-through on the main wire grommet passing through the firewall. It is under the main wire trunk. The picture below is taken from above looking down. I think it was intended for foglight additions (mine came without fogs but I added them). If you have this, you can cut the end off or cut a slit and seal it after passing the wire through. I actually just put a zip-tie around it with the wire inside to keep the water and dirt from getting in. Just another thought.

yeah don't drill...no need. I went though that rubber grommet, but rain it through where the hood release cable goes...no need to use silicon either.

I grabbed an old coat hanger, straighten it, and pushed it through the rubber sleeve pictured above where the hood release cable comes out. Got enough of it through to see on the other side, angled it down so I could pull it through, and taped the wires to the engine end of it. Then just pulled the hanger through past the pedals, pulled off the tape, and kept wiring.

It's a pretty tight fit so I had to really push and wiggle the coat hanger, but I'm pretty sure it'll keep moisture out.
